Dammit.

Let it be known, that up untill yesterday, I loathed these "Social Networking" sites:

Bebo
Myspace
MSN Spaces
FaceParty
Facebook

The few ones I had visited were dreadfull and I simply couldnt see the point to them unless you were either 12 or a chav.

A colleague at work mentioned weeks ago to "Try Facebook".. I was like NO WAY, those things are rubbish and dont appeal to me.

Cue yesterday when I think to myself "Will just pop onto Facebook".. the rest as they say is history.

I just cant believe how damn ADDICTIVE it is.. and I dont think I have an addictive personality (LOL - Just realised that even if I did have an addictive personality, I would deny it, so you will have to believe me)

I just find the site has a legitimate use (Unlike Myspace) and appears to be ver VERY well constructed.

It is definitely great for sucking time away if you want it too.. even if you dont want it to, it just does.

I NEVER THOUGHT I would like one of these "Social Networking" sites.. never thought I would need to join one, but facebook is a surprisingly good and a refreshing application.

If your in doubts, just try it.

The majority of people ive seen on there seem like nice, normal people. Not the chavtastics you get on Myspace et al.

Most of it is crap, like all the gifts and 500 types of poke applications.

Saying that, I've found a few useful ones

Video - upload vids to share like photos.
Scrabble - play it with friends.
Last fm - radio.

One page had so much poop on it the other day it managed to lock-up IE and Firefox.... Opera only seemed work with it. It was truly awful. Plus the number of request to send someone a flower/drink/fish/comparison/movie quiz argh... is silly.

Ah, didn't realise there was an OcUK group, will join this when I get home from work (site's blocked here).

I found I spent a lot of time on there when I first signed up but don't really nowadays.

Completely agree with whoever said that there were too many applications on there, some of them are truly ridiculous. I wouldn't go as far as to say that they've runied it though as I use the flixster one for example.
 
I was in the same situation as you, really hated them, but my housemate recommended I try it out. I did and I have to say it's rather handy, thankfully I'm incapable of getting addicted to anything, I only use it a few times a week.

agreed. i hate the way you have to add an application to see what someone has sent you or said about you.

Facebook is excellent. I do spend a fair amount of time organising social stuff on it as it's far better than texting 20 people. E.g. if you create an event you know who is coming, what they've said, etc etc

Much better than myspace which i do hate.
 
They need to make it so you can choose not to see any apps you choose. You can minimize them in other people's pages but they're still there and you have to do it with EVERY page. Should be an option in your options to choose what you want to see. In fact, I'm going to email them now :p

Agreed, most of them are crap, and they could do with better quality control on the apps front but you don't have to use them. And in what way does having more sections on someones page ruin the site? Even if it is a fortune cookie..

I think I have the Last.FM one on mine but that's it, I agree with the quoted..

Facebook was cool when it started, I can see it becoming another myspace if it tries to be too hip.

Didn't realise there was an OcUK group...
 
I use facebook, just annoyed that any random can Join it now... like my sister... will just mess up the place.

I don't use any applications that make the page look a mess... the most annoying thing about applications is that people keep inviting you to use them and I have to keep rejecting them.
