The SUP. the name says it all. WhatSUP? you say, with this handheld marvel of tech from a country that shall not be named or shamed in this post.
I was lured in by the marketing and i was willing to part with the 9 quid inc delivery.
straight out of the bag it didnt power on so put it on charge. thats where the fun begins before even turning the thing on. red light goes on to say its charging, blue light goes on to say its full. its got a knockoff nokia bl-5c battery in it and i must be the lucky guy who go the extended capacity version since when its full it pops the back cover off....
so it does power on and the kiddo plays with it for 10 mins and its dead. if the extended capacity battery i got only does 10 mins i hate to be in the shoes of the chump who got the regular capacity battery.
so turns out after checking the pins on the board that contact the battery my multimeter showed constant voltage of 4.4v. for a lithium cell of this type its very bad resulting in a overcharging situation. seller offered me a replacement battery or 2 quid back. pointless me taking another battery since it too would die with 4.4v, so 2 quid it is.
Im doubt the battery is to blame although i doubt its got the actual 1020mah its flouting on the label.
4.4v is the issue.
so i did what anyone else with £2 would do... modded it.
used a spare samsung s2 battery 1600mah i had lying around and a cheapo 90p lithium ion usb type c charger circuit board (TP4056 based) which has good reviews with many youtubers, works proper and terminates the charge at 4.20v. a box cutter was the tool of the day and got the case modded to work with what i got.
i left the wiring a bit long incase i decide to change things around or do other mods in it.
now its working for longer than 10 mins!!! kiddo is no longer asking for my phone which is the main reason to get stuff like this. charger board has proper protection as does the battery so hopefully house/car/kid etc doesnt get burnt down.
Be careful of these devices if you get one. maybe i got a dodgy sample from a dodgy batch from a dodgy seller from a dodgy country, its possible 1 in a million works properly.
got my eye on a sega megadrive handheld thingy called a pxp3. will have to see if i can find 11 quid in the park or behind a sofa at someone elses house...
