Just had a weird blip.

Clicked a facebook video, one of the 7 sec videos (dont judge me)

7970 suddenly went to 80-90% usage and around 60c for no reason. did this for a minute and now has settled down.

any had similar to this?

unrelated, facebook video is a service by skype. It kicked your card into thinking it was a game for a moment, skype is a very poorly designed POS

Now would everyone PLEASE stop using internet explorer, update your JAVA, update your flash player, if you can use firefox+noscript

If you have to try before you buy on games/software do it in a sandbox first, run a scan on it etc to make tripple sure its not going to give you this sort of thing in the future. Take your PC security seriously (Especially when such a virus/malware could ruin your GPU given the fact some people have reported temps in the 100c area)

dont use your gaming rig for surfing the web; ever !!!! use an old laptop instead..because nothing gets into this Laptop, not even from the dodgy sites, it's like Fort Knox :D

i research for updates for my rig on this laptop, i write notes, i take the rig online and go staight to the link, i get what i want and then close the link and that's it.

Not sure if that's a joke.

Make sure you regularly check what programs run at startup, some programs like this can be stopped by simply deleting the startup entry.

I've had this happening for the last couple of weeks. It must've been doing it longer without me noticing. I have a msi 7970 with a heatkiller water block and it never goes above 31 degrees when idle. The other week I noticed that my real temp started to go up when I was browsing the net so I checked it and my gpu was at 39 degrees! It only goes to 38 when maxing out BF3. I instantly knew something was wrong and thought my pump had stopped. I pulled the panel off to check it and all was fine so I loaded msi afterburner and saw that the gpu load was 98%. I have Aida 64 to email me and shut my pc down if temps go above a certain threshold.

Anyway, uninstalled MSE and put Avast and Comodo firewall on. Found 5 infections and removed them all and had no probs since.

Old problem with Bitcoin or more likely LiteCoin farmers.

Amazed how many people have RMA'd cards because of it.

BTW : Wasn't me doing it :)

Yeah, I must admit I did start to think it might be an issue with my gpu but with it being watercooled, I wasn't prepared to give up easily!
