Just received my Thermalright Ultra 120 this morning in the post from America.

I started to attempt to fit the heatsink to my motherboard (ASRock Dual SATA-II) and then realised that my cpu retention module wasn't screwed in from the front to the backplate, in which case i thought ok, i will just take out the motherboard as it must be fastened to the backplate from the back.

When I had dismantled my pc (PSU Out, all my tidy wiring moved, motherboard unscrewed) I then realised that the retention module was just clipped into the mtherboard and I didn't have a backplate at all :(

So, no problem, I will just pop online and If i get it ordered today will be with me tomorrow so I can overclock some more on the weekend.

The only place I could find them was an American Retailer, with delivery time 3-7 working days :(

So the pc is now in bits until it arrives as I can't be bothered to put it al back together when the motherboard will have to come out next week anyway.

Luckily I have a laptop I can use! :)

Apparantly most ASRock and Gigabyte motherboards don't have a backplate so be warned if you are buying a Thermalright Heatsink! :)

Yep, found that a while back when I tried to put one on my Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI. In the end I did soem investigation and found a similar backplate for another Tt model and modded it to fit my motherboard. A lot of effort of course, but quite satisfying when I eventually got it to fit :)

Bit of a pita though :(

I had similar when I brought a large heatsink for my gigabyte mobo. put the heatsink in to find when I put the case upright that the motherboard heatsink clip thing wasnt strong enough to hold the hsf, and there was a clunk as it fell. Now I leave my pc on its side all the time, a real pain.

well i know all of my expensive asus boards that i have bought have all come with a steel backplate, i take it the cheaper motherboards dont have them

It's not necessarily cost. My giga cost about £150 when new  Probably a lot cheaper now though. Never really liked this board tbh. I miss my old socket A Epox 8RDA+. That was a cheap(ish) board but so much better than this one.

Heh the DS3 and DS4 are the first Gigabyte i've used for myself in years, picky ******* but works solid when its working :D Last one i had was a 865PE board i forget the name of that died in 2 weeks, replaced with an IC7 and shes still tickin 24/7.
