Having purchased a 19" Samsung 913n tft last october id been pretty pleased with it other than one blue pixel however last week it decided not to display at its optimal resolution of 1280x1024 & just give me a black screen instead.

I rang ocuk who told me to contact Samsung to sort a swap out, the guy I spoke to told me I could just use it in a lower resolution or he would swap it out for me, obviously I opted for the swap out.

A few days later I was contacted & arranged for the swap out to happen on Weds so I booked the day off work & waited for the delivery guy, he turned up & took the old one, the replacement was a refurb which was the first bit of bad news, the second bit was that after it had been on for 10 seconds it went white & then lines came all over the screen so I rang Samsung back.

They told me it must have been one that hadnt been repaired & sent by mistake & that if I contacted the repair centre they maybe able to sort a replacement abit quicker ie the same day, so I rang them only to be told they couldnt do the same day but would send one out for tomorrow & it would be checked.

Luckily I was able to get my mum who was off work the next day to stay around the house waiting for it, it came & when I got in from work I unpacked it, another refurb looking abit shoddy on one corner, but would it work? the answer no, all fuzzy this time, it was gone 6pm so Samsung cust service were shut so I waited until this morning to ring them. I have just been told they cant do anything under the terms of the warranty other than send me another refurb which "should work" in the next 5 days, no managers were available for me to complain to "not that they can do anything" & I if I want to complain it must be in writing to a PO Box in Edinburgh.

Obvioulsy I am totally gutted about this & wont by buying anything Samsung again! Its looking like a 3rd days annual leave one day next week to get this damm thing sorted, im half tempted to just buy a new one :(

Thats harsh mate. Sorry to hear.

I'd go with Dell, they're fantastic at replacing stuff (depending on how many years cover you take out) but while you have the cover next business replacement with a new unit. At least thats what its been like in my experience.

I've had dells for as long as I can remember and only one has ever gone wrong.

Since it's within the 1 year statutory manufacturers warranty I would have expected that you should get a new replacement not a refurb.

Also, doesn't the retailer still have a responsibility within this one year period, i.e. OCUK, since it is with them that you entered contract with. They may pass you onto Samsung but I believe under law your statutory rights say they are the responisble party in this case and should be contacted first.

By dealing with Samsung you may have compromised your statutory rights.

ocuk told me that they only cover them for 28 days & then its dealt with by the manufacturer hence why I rang Samsung. Since my original post I have rang the repair centre (the guy from cust service gave me there number on weds to speed things along) & spoke to one of the main engineer supervisor types, he was very helpful & said he would get the superseeded model of mine sent out for Tuesday as they had none of my model in stock. Im just hoping that this one turns out ok, roll on tues!

I believe that under the sale of goods act, your contract is still with the supplier and your statutory rights cover this.

Manufacturers warranties are in addition to this and a supplier may forward you on to them to speed up the process but, by law, your contract is still with them as the supplier. For products bought, certainly within a six month period, any defects are their responsibility ultimately.

I had 4 dead pixels and bleed on a brand new samsung. 2 of the pixels were side by side making it even more noticable, the funny thing was that the screen was marked in the exact same place as though it had been bashed. Was never convinced that it was new even though it was bought new from another large etailer. The replacement i had was fine but with 1 dead pixel this time. I ended up selling it on as i didnt trust it not to get worse.

This Dell on the other hand was cheaper and not one problem with it, no dead pixels and no bleed that i can see whatsover.
