My wifes uncle died yesterday after falling from a ladder whilst climbing up to the scaffold to a chimney stack. If anyone is doing any roof work please make sure you secure the ladder to the scaffold as it looks like he forgot to do it. :(

All ladders should be staked and tied at the bottom (or sandbagged) and tied off at the top to a secure point.

Ladders are for access only and not for working from.

Sorry to hear of your loss

A close family friend died the same way, he was cleaning the guttering on his house.

Be careful out there, and take OP's advice.

We had a guy doing repair work on a property we rent out, the man slipped off his unsecured ladder and died

A little mistake with such a horrible outcome :(

RIP

My Uncle Cecil fell from the 3rd rung of a ladder and died back in the 80's.
And no, it was a normal ladder with normal rungs and he fell straight to the floor on his head.
Of course people will ask how do I know it was the 3rd rung? - this is what I was told.

Nothing to question mate, a chap i worked with on a building site stepped of a very small step ladder. And fell backwards and died :(

A mate of mine recently (about 6 months ago) posted pics up on Facebook of a ladder related accident.
He fell off from about 4 foot up and obviously tried to break his fall with his left foot and the injury sustained is a very common one according to A&E clinicians.
His foot is a right mess and basically smashed.
I'll have to see if I can find the pictures to post up.

Sorry to hear of this tragic loss. I hope in someway it shakes everyone up to be a bit more careful making his tragic loss if possibly less invain

Oh no :( :(

I'm so sorry for your loss - you never realise life can be so fragile until you see how easily it can be taken from you :(

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sorry to hear that. :(

My grandad was a slater (roofer) all his life from aged 7 or 8, and fell from the top of a ladder on a three story tenement of flats onto the garden below, which was thankfully raised from true ground level by a few feet - hilly area. Astonishingly it was him and his workmate doing his own roof in that block of flats, so a few neighbours helped lift him in and put him to bed.

Don't think a doctor was called my gran said. He was there for a month iirc before he could get back up, working a week later. This would have been the 40/50's. Lucky guy, practically saved by his bulk/fall I think.
