I bought my BMW F800S back in late August from a good little independent dealer, and it's been great. Then, a week ago, a little oil leak. Nothing major, just some spots on the ground every morning.

I phone BMW, and they say "bring it in". I take it in, they loan me a K1300S for the day (that's another thread in itself :o) and phone me back later saying "ah, valve cover gasket failure".

Now, this appears to be a reasonably common problem, and the bike's not a high mileage (7k, '08 plate). Thinking that this will be a simple fix within the 3 month warranty included by the original dealer I phone the warranty company.

They say the valve cover gasket isn't included. The only seals and gaskets included are the cylinder gasket, valve train gasket and the gearbox seals.

I'm now going to try and get this repaired on a goodwill basis from BMW, because a valve cover gasket shouldn't fail after only 7k miles, and the internet seems to think this is a reasonably common problem (for this bike) which indicates a design flaw.

There was me naively thinking that what seems to be a fairly critical engine part isn't covered under a fairly standard warranty. Here's hoping BMW are nice to me and I don't have to fork out £150. Boo.

*edit* BMW just called - they're paying for it. Epic win.
