Warranty, does this sound right?

Had to take my wifes car back AGAIN to the Citroen main dealer, this time however they managed to replicate all of the faults I described and told me that it needs some new plate near the exhaust manifold, some kind of cabling for the gearbox, a new window actuator and a new spare wheel.

They said I had to take the car away, they'd then contact the warranty company and ring me back in a day or two, this was 2 weeks ago, I've pestered them now since last wednesday and all I'm getting is "we have to wait on an assessor from the warranty company to view the car".

Is this normal for a warranty? Do warranty companies really not trust the word of the dealer and inspect every vehicle to make sure the work is necessary?

Yes, they'll do literally *anything* to avoid doing something under warranty if they don't have to.

My guess is that they are checking to see whether it's been damaged in some way by either a parking scrape or something else. In which case, they won't have to do it.

Sounds like a typical citroen dealership. The waranty is normally done under the approved manufactures scheame.

Are we talking used car or brand new car here?

When my Seat needed some warranty work done (bought used), I went in Saturday to enquire, monday got a call saying it had be authorised when would I like it done etc.

if its a Citreon used Car Warranty try a different dealer. Some dealers make no effort.

Sucky.

Guess I count myself lucky I got a new roof on my S2000 for a paltry £100 contribution OUTSIDE of warranty!

As matthab asked, is it new or used? If that is a dealership new car warranty I would be livid.

Had to go through the same rigmarole when my S2000 had to have it's engine rebuilt, Honda dealer backed warranty (so an outside company essentially) rather than a manufacturer one.

*WARNING* Post not very constructive

Off topic: I don't know why car manufacturers, such as Citroen, continue to make awful cars and then whinge when they break.

On topic: It does sound, however, that you are out of original warranty and I would expect any warranty company to want to send their own "assessor" to check it out especially if it's a big claim. I expect you might have a small fight on your hands.

I think I got to the bottom of it this morning, I rang Citroen UK and being cocked around over the weekend by the dealer again. The chap I spoke to said that there was no record of a Citroen Approved Warranty on the car, I rang the chap who owned the dealership and he said Citroen have got it wrong and that ALL second hand cars with my mileage/age have the Citroen approved warranty, I told him to go and check and he came back and said "Oh, we made a mistake and didn't give you the approved warranty, our clerical woman gave you a warranty for an older/higher mileage car which is completely seperate from Citroen", I asked him if I could have the warranty I asked put in place and he said no, but that he would make sure they covered any work that needed doing.

I'm going to contact Citroen again and find out why I can't have the proper warranty as I don't trust this shower of ***** to keep to their word.

Damn right, kick off to HO. The dealer has messed up and refusing to fix the error.

End of the day part of your agreement to buy the car was this warranty was included - it's not your fault or business as to who messed up you are entitled to it and if you don't then I'm sure there is something to kick off with there in terms of the law.

Citroen have said there's nothing they can do now because the approved warranty has to be applied when the car is sold, he said I'm at the mercy of the dealer unfortunately.

I'm trying to weight up my satisfaction vs. dealer co-operation if I punch the salesman in the head.

I'd be looking to go higher then, you are losing out because they have messed up.

I don't care if your system can only add a warranty when a car is sold, that is your system and your problem.

Higher than who though? I've been dealing with the dealer principal, Citroen have already said there's nothing they can do so unless I got to trading standards who'll probably laugh I'm kinda stuck.

Id start mentioning soliciter letters/calls to them and then see if they start putting the pieces together to fix the car tbh mate.

Also get anything they say to you in writing to cover your back.

Why will trading standards laugh?

Give consumer direct a ring, it's them that deal with the consumer side now anyway and I can assure you they won't laugh.

Hopefully the time you've had it won't count against you as you couldn't reasonably have found out you had been sold the wrong thing until now.

Yup, get someone high in HO involved, personal email/recorded letter to the highest persons details you can find.

Get TS or CD involved they'll be able to advise you.

*Update* (with stars!!)

After a lot of moaning, cursing, complaining and generally being a nuisance they have replaced the window actuator, the front exhaust mount, replaced the gear cables and fitted a new (good quality) spare tyre.

they have also sent me a letter signed by the person who owns/franchises the dealership saying that any work required in the next 9 months will be covered by them out of their own pocket.
