Warranty replacement - downgrade or upgrade (4070TI)

Hello OCUKers

Firstly, other than the long wait I can't fault OCUK for how they've handled the issue with my system, though I wish they'd allow to have the suspected parts sent to me, instead of me returning the system for repair, but that's all fine with hindsight....it could've been the MB.
Anyway...
I'm looking for advice and opinion on my in-warranty GPU replacement being somewhat of an upgrade spec or downgrade manufacturer...

The original GPU is a

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 TI EAGLE OC 12GB Graphics Card - 12GB DDRX6 21Gbps 192bit, PCI-E 4.0, 3 x DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1a, NVIDIA DLSS 3, Supports 4K, Ada Lovelace Arch, GV-N407TEAGLE OC-12GD

and the replacement OCUK have put in is a....

MSI GeForce RTX 4070Ti Suprim X 12GB GDDR6X PCI-Express Graphics Card 4K & 8K HDR)

Is there much difference in ability between the two, and is there anything to worry about with MSI's in warranty service?

Cheers

I don't know about the 4070 Ti models specifically, but (in terms of tiers) the Suprim X is a higher-end model, whereas the Eagle is one of Gigabyte's lowest.
and its not just msi tax vs gigabyte tax? lots of times the perceived higher end thing is just a fallacy managed by marketing and price tiering :P

Ya, it is real.

Where I've seen reviews that compare a good chunk of different models *, the Suprim X is an objectively better cooler than most of them.

If the premium is worth paying, that's a different issue, but since this is a warranty replacement I guess it doesn't matter.

* Haven't checked 4070 Ti specifically.

My MSI 4090 Suprim X was a night and day difference from my Zotac 4090. It clocked MUCH higher and ran a LOT cooler. SUPRIM X really is pretty much the best air cooled 4090 and 5090 so I'd expect the 4070TI to have similar stellar build quality. It's definitely an upgrade on what you had.

The Eagle is more of a lower mid-range in the Gigabyte lineup, while as the Suprim is the high-end of MSI's. So, they're offering you a minor upgrade. They'll perform similarly, anyway. You're getting a good deal, I'd say take it and be happy! There's nothing wrong with MSI.

The Gigabyte Eagle was so noisy with something like coil whine; the new GPU is silent so far. Unfortunately the green and pink saturation when HDR/Dolby is selected is still apparent, so I need to eliminate the display before raising another ticket (fault apparent through every HDMI port on the TV and every 2.1 cable used).

I need to hire someone that does PC tuning, see if they can suss it, and tune the rig.

The green screen is down to a windows update I believe mine was doing the same, I was having to go into display settings then turn on Dolby vision under HDR then off again to sort

The Suprim is a better card than the Eagle as far as I know, similar level to the higher end Auorus GB models. GB have UK warranty centre as far as I know, not sure about MSI, but from you having to send the whole system back I assume the warranty would be with OCUK for the system, rather than the AIB (card manufacturer) - not sure whether individual warranty for parts would apply

This... The green/pinky purple is when the TV doesn't support Dolby vision. If your TV does support Dolby Vision than it's the known Windows bug.
I've had it happen on my monitor a couple of times but I've since turned it off cos Dolby vision is a waste of time anyway

Have been able to remedy it so it doesn't happen at all?

Do you know which update is responsible? Thanks for the info, it might save me a load of time trying to fix something that isn't faulty.

It does it with just HDR selected, but I can fix it by toggling Dolby on then off. If I let the PC sleep, it always goes back to green when I awaken it.

You've enabled full bandwidth on all your TVs HDMI ports?
Your HDMI 2.1 cable is no more than 3 metres? If it's 5 metres or more it's best to use a fibre optic one
Set 10bit colour etc in the nvidia control panel (although this shouldn't make a difference)?

Mine has stopped doing this now and the Dolby vision toggle isn't there anymore, not sure why, maybe another update fixed it, the only thing I did was turn HDR off on the TV and in display settings then put the TV to Auto and turned on hdr
