Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience claiming on a warranty with Gigabyte?

I've bought a second hand motherboard that hasn't been out for 3 years yet which has a fault with RAM slots and potentially PCIe, and rather than try and return to the seller straight away, I thought I'd see if I can go down the warranty route.

At the moment, they're asking for an invoice as proof of purchase, but I don't have one, and since the motherboard hasn't even been out for 3 years yet (Z370 Gaming 7) I thought I'd see if I can encourage them to take a look anyway.

@GIGA-Man can you shed any light on this matter?

Thanks in advance :-)

Annoys the hell out of me when manufacturers ask for original invoices, EVGA don't, they know people buy second hand.

I’ve had an update from them. Without the invoice, they’ll look at it, but if they can’t fix the issue, they won’t replace the board.

Being a memory channel issue, I highly doubt they’ll be able to fix it :(

I used them a few years ago and they replaced a CPU socket , think they are in Milton Keynes area , in fact i sent them my RAM and GPU with the board as i wasnt sure what the issue was and they sorted it , thumbs up from me

Okay,

The issue of second hand PC parts and warranties is an old point that's been raised here a few times. Firstly let me start by saying, I can get the board looked at and if it's a simple fix I'll have that arranged for you if the board is still in warranty. If you have already tired to log the board with us please let me know the serial number, mail [email protected]

Let me start with the official GIGABYTE warranty line, then I’ll explain why we and almost all other manufacturers have a similar policy.

GIGABYTE product warranties “technically” are none transferable from customer to customer. If you buy second had parts the warranty if any is on the seller of the goods.

This is for several reasons but the main one is we cannot guaranty the quality of the product you are buying from a second-hand source.

As an example the PC component could have been previously damaged by someone returned to us for repair and the warranty has been declared void by GIGABYTE. This happens if the damage is due to inappropriate use or user damage.

The part could have been overclocked incorrectly and damaged which now makes that part unstable, again this could be then seen as user damage and GIGABYET void the warranty.

The goods could also have been stolen, if for example a shipment of GIGABYTE goods is stolen or goes missing during shipping. The serial numbers for all those items will be recorded and voided.

There are many more reasons for this but I hope it give you all an understanding on why we and many other companies (not just PC based) require proof of purchase.
