Hi,

Just called OcUK regarding the warranty of a B-Grade item. On the web it says "14 Days (OcUK) + Any additional balance of warranty remaining with the vendor of this product". Which is totally unhelpful. I spoke to the chap on the sales desk and he couldn't tell me how much was left with the manufacturer. I asked him why and he just said "I just can't tell you as each item is different". I asked him to go and check on this particular item and same response again. "I can't".

Is this standard? On some of the items that are B-Grade they give you how much is left with the manufacturer?

I'm not slandering OcUK in any way here - I buy a lot of stuff from them. I just want to know whether this is right or not!

Theres no way they would know.

What item is it?

I had a bgrade hard drive and got 14 days from ocuk, but its in warranty with manufacturer with WD until 2010

Any chanceyou can check on the manufacturer website to see what warranty remains?

Hi Meatloaf,

It's 3 years warranty with the manufacturer, I'd just like to know how much of that is left. Obviously if there's only 6 months then I'm not interested.

In theory staff could go check the serial number and in many cases the manufacturers have a checking utility on their website, however for B Grade items it probably isn't worth their while generally since they are selling at a reduced price so I think it is a case of "you pays your money, you takes your choice". :)

Think it's worth it then?

Am I right in believing that if the item has been returned under DSR making it is B-Grade that means therefore the warranty used up would only be a maximum of 7 days, is that right?

B grade can also be shop damaged stock (tatty boxes), or manufacturers repaired/replaced units (IE stuff that might either have been repaired under warrantee, or a plain box replacement under warranty) from memory.
It might also be missing non essential parts such as accessory cables or manuals.

Basically it's anything that can't be sold as "new" but should still be in full working order.

As for warranty, I suspect as mentioned it's not worth the store staff's time to locate the box, check the serial number against the manufacturers site and then report back to you, especially if they've got several of them with different serial numbers (thus different manufacturing dates), on stuff that is being sold off "cheap".

Cheers for that, bit clearer. I think for the money I'd rather not risk it as I'm usure of the outcome, I'll go for something else.
