how does overclocking affect warrenties? i know OCUK offers OC'd packages, so are they covering the warrenties themselves, or do companies not test why something dies so just accepts the RMA unless its obvious like thermal paste everywhere or badly fitted?

It's not anything to worry about. There is no way anyone can tell if you overclocked your cpu or not, and most people only overclock within tolerances that are safe anyway.

ok, but overclockers clearly state their bundles as being overclocked, would the manufacturers not be aware of this?

So?

If you RMA a part direct to the supplier, how would they know that the part was from an OC bundle?

Intel (for example), clearly advertise the K series SBs as "for overclockers" and the mobo suppliers include overclocking / overvolting in their BIOSs.

Intel sell cpus that are designed to be overclocked surely with the unlocked models, why else would you want to change the multi.

The whole thing is a dumb game in my opinion as intel build processors whose only purpose is to be overclocked and design chipsets to allow it, yet they don't officially admit they support overclocking. Intel and say the warranty may be void if you overclock.
