Hi guys,

My 17" generic tft broke last night so after a new monitor. Thought I would just replace it with another similar one but after looking at all the monitor available Ive took a real liking to the SM-2232BW Pebble 22", it seems like a good choice too?

Was about to put an order in when I read a few posts about 'Get the S/C panels', can anyone please expand on that please? Also, I liked the pebble because it was all black, I know there is another similar mode (Samsung SM-223BW), which is priced the same but has a bit of silver on the front which im not too keen on, is that the only difference between the monitors?

Also, what kind a difference do you think I would see going from a generic 17" to a 22" wide screen?

Thanks

It's the SM226BW which is very similar to the SM2232BW, as both use overdrive to boost response time to 2ms G2G. The SM223BW is similar, but without the overdrive technology being used, resulting in only a 5ms non-RTC response time. In practice, the overdrive does make a difference to responsiveness, so if you're a gamer, the 226 or 2232 would be a good bet.

The S. vs A. vs C situation relates to a "panel lottery" which was discussed in depth with the SM226BW. Behardware discussed this situation here as did Xbitlabs here. in fact that second link also covers the 225BW so is a handy reference. I wouldnt get too bogged down with this whole issue though, there's far too much hype about it on forums, most of which is misinformed and people jumping to conclusions

In the 22" range I think I'd probably consider the SM2232BW strongly. The design is very nice (I've tested the SM932B Plus which is similar design). The SM226BW is very similar but i think i prefer the design of the Pebble range. You could always consider a 24" screen though :p

Got a 2232BW and love it, one of the best bits is that its very pleasing to he ey in addition to the tech-specs. Its the same design that samsung use on thier LCD TVs.

Instead of starting a new thread in descriptions the viewing angles is listed differently, does the pebble have better viewing angles?

been waiting to order a new monitor and i think i will go for the pebble now over the 226BW. Generally they are the same price and should be the same panel so i guess it's down to the astetics (sp?) of the monitor.

Erm....I tend to think otherwise.

The 226BW is said to be less affected by backlight bleed than the 2232BW - Pebble, I am RMa'ing my pebble due to this http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10425519&postcount=38

I thought I could live with it, afterall its the only fault I could find with the screen, but when you game in the dark, the light just floods in from the sides...not good.

Also the stand is a little cheap IMO on the pebble, no height adjustment and only 10 Degrees of tilt available, this combined with the finish of the Pebble (finger print magnet, looked good fro around a day) has made me rethink my ownership.

I didn't buy mine from OCUK, but it was a Romanian September 2007 manufactured panel....just for the record. :D

Its being picked up as an RMA on Monday...if they don't accept it and return it I might just do that, looking around these forums, people seem to think its a great example of a low bleed screen:rolleyes:

Well you agree with them untill its sold then lol. To be honest, i dont have a clue what the bleed is about. I look at those pictures and i see a black screen with some coloured rings on it which i beleive are from your camera.

Is the bleeding meant to come in from the sides? I see only a faint change in black on the sides, not noticeable in gaming i would have thought.

lol.....ok, look at the 3rd pic....the lighter areas around the edge of the panel (should be black) is where the white backlight is "bleeding" onto the screen.
This is evident on any black or dark picture, so unfortunately it is evident in Games and any dark coloured pictures

You can see what I am talking about on this pic of someone else's screen, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10433351&postcount=33
circled in Red are the areas affected by the bleed.

Yeah Samsung need to improve eveness of backlight.. this was my pebble- brigtness is set way too high, but even so it should be equal in brightness, not splotches everywhere..

I'm supprised you guys get that much bleed, i get minimal amounts on the bottom and that it, although ive never played anythign where it actually shows (other than the old loading screen of Warcraft 3: DOTA :P ). Either i'm very lucky or you guys had a bad apple. The stand is the only thing I personally dont like with the monitor, agreed with all, its poor.

PeaOn, download DPB (dead pixel buddy) from TFT Central (Baddass's webby http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/) and load up the black screen, then assess backlight bleed.

for the record, my brightness was set to 20 and contrast to 65...pretty low and it didn't really alter the backlight problem.

I am going to order either the 2032bw or 206bw. Just wondering, do either of them comes with DVI cable?

Cheers,
