I got the impression that automatic cars drinks more fuel compared to manual. Is this still the case with newer cars?

It's definately true of the e39 and e46. It's do do with transmission losses in the gearbox, and the thing that put me off the most about auto cars.

The baby thing is quite believable. Boy racer sells rice wagon because his head (and missus) tells him he needs a 'family' car. At around 18 months the child seats aren't so bulky so he's probably figuring on getting it in the back seat there somewhere :p

Why he would sell a bmw to buy a CTR I don't know, especially a decent 5 series like the one advertised. Probably a boy racer like most people have said!

I wasn't aware of the variable servicing times. For a big engine it seems strange to not have a regular service interval for them, but then again it's a blastproof bmw :)

BMW are the best in their class. Audi and Merc are quite simply failing to keep up with BMW's improvements over the past few models and now that they have decided to use force induction, the M division are going to be rubbing their grubby little paws.

The new M3 4.0 V8 is going to destroy the RS4 in both figures and price and it doesn't need 2 turbo's to get over 400bhp.

The 5 series are big and bulky but they still have a 'sporty' feel. The 3 series is just such a good car though it's tough for bmw to outperform themselves, although they managed it with the M5 I dare say...

WTF has this got to do with this thread which IIRC is about a reasonably priced nice looking 5 series(something fox and I agree on).

Also as already posted the RS4 has a N/A 4.2 FSI V8 engine developing 414-419bhp (depending on what review you read), which revs all the way to 8000rpm.

He's not. He sold the CTR to get the BMW. NOw he wants something Jap again, but not necessarily a CTR.
