Was FSX designed for single cores?

Is it really not optimized for dual core, even since SP2 has been out?

I have a [email protected] but still get crappy frame rates on high settings with an 8800GT on 1280x1024.

I was looking to get a Q6600 but if it is going to make no difference, I may as well wait for the Nehalm.

Any ideas?

errr people FSX-X recommend going quad. With Supreme Commander it's the only game that needs quads.

I'm thinking that all the background tasks on Vista will have 2-3 cores so wont slow the game down when playing on a Quad.

I'm just not all clued up whether a Quad would be any better.

From single core too dual core you will notice a big difference but from dual core too quad core not so much > so pcpilot says.

get fsx acceleration add on, the aircraft carrier missions are pretty fun!

I have the acceleration pack and it does rock.:D

Have you installed SP1 and SP2?

I installed SP1 and acceleration comes with SP2 so I have the 2.

I think its time for an E8400 then. :)

Acceleration comes with SP2 and has better optimisation for multicore.

If you're running FSX like a slideshow then turn off AI traffic on road, sea and air, set scenery complexity to normal and autogen to low. Adjust autogen as necessary.

Too many people complain about FSX being poorly written when in fact with careful tuning it can run just fine. Most computer games don't have a true horizon along with complex animations and it probably does more to tax the CPU than any other game. The graphics card does very little work because texture quality isn't high and doesn't need to be because you're in an airplane up in the sky.

Try the above settings and let us know how it goes.
