Was it just me, or did land of the dead (2005) suck?

I am a pretty big Romero fan. I love day of the dead, dawn of the dead and others. But I watched land of the dead the other day, and got to the end honestly hoping for another 2 hours of film, as not a lot seemed to have happened. I won't plot spoil for those that havn't watched it, but did anyone else think that Romero wasn't quite at his best on this one?

It's not just you. Here's my response from this thread.

My worst DVD of the week was Land of the Dead. Without trying to give too much away, the zombies are supposed to be getting smarter; remembering how to do things they used to do when they were alive. It basically stunk. The lead guy had less charisma than the lead zombie, the story was fairly diabolical and practically every bullet hit is done in CGI... and looks it. The ending was severely lacklustre and did no justice to the franchise. Pity really, as Dawn of the Dead (original) is one of my all time favourite movies.

The majority of my rentals are rated four, five and six ('watchable', 'liked it', 'loved it') out of seven. Land of the Dead gets a three ('didn't like it').

well it didnt suck but it wasnt a patch on his other 3.

Not sure if there was too much interference from the studios or what but it defenitly seemed very sanitised compared to what we're used to.

It was a good idea just didnt feel like a Romero zombie film, any director could have put it together. Apart from Uwe Boll maybe ;)

Plus the main zombie was just too human like. I dunno, i liked it still, but its defenitly the red headed stepchild. Maybe put it on par with Day or the remake of Dawn which i liked a lot.

was that the one where the zombie is the big black dude in a blue boiler suit and there's that little annoying mexican guy?

i thought it was ok til the very end *****SPOILER********

where he goes "they're just looking for a place to stay, just like us" or something crap like that. am i thinking of the right film?

Maybe it's because I've only had one coffee today but that's gone completely over my head!

sorry, it's a family guy thing...i always say it - but you weren't to know :p

I actually really enjoyed it...to the point that I went to the cinema twice in a week to watch it :o :o :o

Anyway what you have to do is detach yourself from the fact that it's the 4th movie in the saga & watch it as a completley stand alone movie that has nothing to do with the other 3 (Night, Dawn, Day) then it becomes exactly what it should be...a good zombie movie.

It's when you try to tie into the continuity of the others that it fails miserably.
If you go with an open mind just to see some gore & zombies you'll be fine but dont expect a Romero masterwork.
