Was quake 4 good?

I just bought Call of Juarez and Quake 4 Special Edition for £15. Im installing COJ now and will play that first...

But what should i expect from quake 4?, will i be disappointed?

Expect a good, long shooter on its own merits.

Very nice graphcs, gets a tad boring near the end though, still good to play. If you like bunyhopping you can still do it on Q4 also.

Doesn't match up with the previous Quakes in my opinion, it just doesn't seem any different to your average FPS whereas previous incarnations of the series have really lifted the bench mark

Judging it on it's own though and it's a fairly enjoyable shooter, bit too much like Doom 3 though in it's level design

I agree. It just didn't have the same impact as prievous quake games did. Probably down to the slow release of patches and fixes. People just moved on.

On the other hand thou, I thought the single player aspect was rather good.

Quake 4 was atmospheric (in places), has good guns, enemies, voice acting, reasonable story and fair level design (again, in places). Some parts I wish I could have skipped but overall it's an enjoyable romp that won't disappoint, especially for the price you can buy it for now.

Can't comment on the MP aspect, as I never played it.

Im playing Quake 4 at the moment and am really enjoying it, though my fps plumets in some places :S

MP isnt any good imo, feels slow and sluggish compared to Q3A.

Definitely worth the cash!

Had a quick blast before bed last night. The lighting and detail in the game is pretty spectacular. I can tell the huge difference between my old PC spec with the doom 3 engine

I personally thought Quake 4 was pure garbage.

'Run thru a maze of corridors, find your team mate and escort him to somewhere, and repeat'

With an occasional outside (still essentially stuck in corridors) level.

You (the op) may like it whilst others don't.

I quite liked quake 4 multiplayer however it had nothing on quake 3 arena for me.

Thats where I am on it at the moment (decided to go back and play it due to the lack of anything new out) man is it hard after that! Any idea where in the game that is (middle/end)?

CoJ is a much better/more fun game imo.

Beat the singplayer pretty fast but finding multiplayer a blast. Its more fun that counterstrike imo but then i never liked counterstrike.

I have Q4, nice graphics, besides that no one plays hardly & no servers with anything accept boring unmodded Q4. I never liked playing a unmoded FPS really.
