Was the i5 3470s an improvement over the i5 2400?

the 3470s ive seen is a fiver more, but is it worth it over the 2400? Was looking at an Fx-6300 as I found a cheap board to go with it, but I know intel usually better, I’m not bothered either way like, they still faster than the Am1, I’m just pricing up parts to get today.

Overall yes - 5% better IPC from Sandy-Bridge to Ivy-Bridge, although the base clock is 2.9Ghz vs 3.1Ghz of the 2400, the boost clock is higher 3.6Ghz vs 3.4Ghz (and depending on board you may be able to set all core boost). Slightly better onboard GPU and slightly lower power consumption.

I’d be tempted to get the 3570s instead. I built a system with one a few years back. Great little CPU.

Not that it makes much if any difference, but ivy is pcie 3.0 compatible while sandy is pcie 2.0.
