Was there a auto-save feature on Half Life?

I fancied a bit of gaming nostalgia and fired up Half Life for a run through. When I bought a 9800XT a few years back I got a coupon for Half Life Source so decided to play this version.

Now I found out the hard way that there was no auto save as I got all the way to the test chamber only to be hit by a falling block on the way out.

I clicked on reload and it put me right back on the overly long train bit at the beginning. :p So my question is as above, is there auto save on Half Life, maybe something I am overlooking in the options, in the console maybe?

I have replayed it and have just got through the freezer bit and can confirm that it is not auto saving by default. I have to do it the old school way of hitting escape and clicking save, only problem is that I know I will get to a hard bit and will have forgot to save it in a long while.

Not a solution but find out what the quicksave keys are and press them whenever you need to save.

Thanks to the above for the help, I guess Half Life must have been before the use of auto-save. I just remapped quick save to Keypad Enter to make it easier.

Needless to say though there will be times when I forget to use it and end up backtracking. :o
