Was thinking of a new 939, now considering Conroe?

Hmmm.

I was going to get a 939 x3800 along with 2GB of ram and a new graphic card (something like an X1800XT).

I do a huge amount of graphic artwork, mostly using Photoshop and work typically with lots of layers and so on.

I currently have an:

3000 venice at 2.75GHZ
1GB of ram
Epox Nforce 3 AGP motherboard
X800XT

I worked out that I could grab an X3800 X2 and a 2GB of ram kit, for around 280 or so... but then if I wanted to upgrad my graphics I would need to buy a new motherboard (say the 939 Asrock) and then the X1800XT (around 160).

I was thinking instead of grabbing a:

Conroe 6300 150 or so.
Motherboard? Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775) which is just under 90
Ram, no idea TBH, I guess any 2GB DDR2 kit for around 100 - 120.
Graphic Card... X1800XT (whatever is the cheapest, they are all about the same I think?)
PSU I am guessing a Tagan of some type?

As you probablly could guess, I do want to overclock quite a bit. I am looking to spend around 500 - 600 or so.

I dont need any hard drives, CD roms or anything like that. I also dont really need a motherboard that supports SATA super well, since all my drives are EIDE. Anyone want to add more suggestions?

Thanks in advance all :)

Was in the same position as you a few days ago.

I wanted to upgrade my AGP motherboard and grapics. Conroe would have been great but it would have ment buying a more expensive chip, a more expensive board, DDR2 ram AND a new VidCard.

I managed to find a cheap DFI ULTRA SLI and I purchased the x1800 XT all for under 240Quid - ill propably get 100quid back from my old parts. I plan to keep my existing chip and ram and just overclock it all.

Conroe would have been great - but it was too expensive for me. This way ive got a great upgrade at a very low price!

truthfully I dont see myself saving virtually any money going 939 again. I was doing the math, and may save less than around 70... especially since I cant reuse the ram in a 939 setup, because I need 2GB anyway :(

939 is good if you are upgrading from p4/athlon xp or below, but for most of you freaks who upgrade every 3 months there's not much point, especially if you need new ram/graphics.

who in the hell can afford to upgrade their system every 3 months, since i bought my system only 1 thing has been upgraded thats the graphics card, gto2 to start off with because i had no spare cash, then i got an x1800xt dirt cheap a couple of months back then i just got an x1900xt but i sold my old card in the process making my upgrades cheap

if u can;t reuse the ram then go for conroe.

Thats kinda what I figured...

Anyone want to have a peak over the specs I posted in my OP to see if there is any suggestions for improvments (especially on RAM and PSU).

I also am a bit unsure on the Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775)... does it support Conroe OK and does it overclock well?

*EDIT*

As a completetly random thought, how to Conroe/775 work with 4 sticks of ram? does it have any issues like the A64's do or do they all play nice together?
