Was thinking of upgrading from a 980ti

but I’m not really up to speed on gxf cards but it seems a 2080 or 2080ti would equate to roughly double the performance? I’m not sure a 1080ti would be worth upgrading to?
the prices seem really high though , is this because they’re new out and theyll drop after a while? Or is £~800 - £~1200 going to be the norm from now on? Will the next gen be £2000? Heh

I think I paid about £350 for my 980ti a couple of years ago , what’s happened to cause these huge price jumps?

I guess what I really want to know is if there’s any point waiting for the prices to drop or that’s what they’re going to cost from now on? Or is there any other cheaper alternatives that are worth upgrading to?

What resolution and refresh rate do you play at?

Prices will not drop in the near future in my opinion as nvidia do not have any competition at the top end and are charging what they like.

I try to play at 4K but usually have to drop the res down a little due to poor performance

I also use a Vive headset if that makes a difference

Quite a few 1080tis still selling in the second hand market atm, I'd grab one of those while they still are out there. Usually around £520-580. Don't think the prices on the 2080 & 2080ti are all that competitive tbh, but unlikely to drop any time soon as others have said.

Unfortunately these are the new price points that Nvidia are selling at - it's not gouging or anything crazy though I wish it was!

1080Ti would be good option if you can get decent one second hand - don't think its worthwhile buying 1080Ti new at this point.

Stuck with the same dilemma myself - really fancied an upgrade on my 980Ti but not going to pay £1200+ for the new gen and not happy paying £600+ for GPU that is basically EOL.

Will certainly be watching for black friday deals this year as well - either 1080Ti or even a 2080 down 15-20% I might bite.

Is it worthwhile upgrading to a 1080ti?

Hold fire until black friday I'd say.

Sounds sensible

Worthwhile is a subjective assessment, but in your case you're really left with only two options 1080ti/2080 & 2080ti. The difference between them isn't exactly gigantic but the price difference is, so would you pay £1200+ for a 2080ti? Probably not. So that leaves you with the choice of either a used/new 1080ti or a new 2080, and that's up to you whether you want the new tech & warranty or to pocket £100-200. You could always wait, of course, but nothing new coming next year as a significant upgrade from a 980ti, and as for price drops - maybe, but recent history doesn't quite favour such a situation. I mean look at the 1080ti, could've had it for much the same price 2 years ago as you can today, where's the price drop?

I'm in the same boat - using an MSI 980ti gaming on a 1440p UWS 60hz LG monitor as well as owning a rift headset.

I don't fancy paying four figures for a graphics card so the 2080 ti is out - leaving the 1080ti/2080 the only real option currently. Still quite a cost though.

Sticking with what I have for a while unless I manage to get a 1080ti for a good price.

I have the 980ti and unless your willing to spend the money it's honestly not worth it in terms of pounds per performance.

Game on 1440p Ultra Wide 100hz

I'm in the same boat too - find the 980ti struggling at times with Rift or over 120Hz, but find the 2080/2080ti options too much atm. Guess I'll hope for a price adjust in the new year... (I'll be lucky)

Is it worthwhile upgrading to a 1080ti?

I did upgrade my 980TI to a 1080TI, at a lower resolution @ 2560*1600, but use 2 x DSR, was a couple of months ago, performance uplift is/was worth it (i went used (not the bay) aimed for under £500, and ended up with a as new EVGA hybrid for £550) but for £450 - £550, that level of performance seems good, there was a itch and i had the cash, more importantly i knew i had some time off to actually use it, if i didnt, i would probably still be using the 980TI.

Another thing, can sell your current card, i got £240 from my 980TI.

As others have said, Keep a eye on used 1080TIs or any sales.

980ti to 1080Ti is somewhere in the 30%-70% improvement depending on game, That is a big performance jump. The 2080ti is about 35% faster than a 1080TI. A second had 1080Ti would cost you £450-£500 and a brand new 2080TI will cost you £1200 ish for a good brand card, now you just need to decide if 35% increase in performance is worth £700 extra, granted you get a brand new card.
