Hi all

Our current washing machine has broke so I'm now looking to replace this ASAP and thinking of getting a combined washer / dryer.

I can get the following item heavily discounted

http://ao.com/product/wd15h520gb-siemens-iq700-washer-dryer-white-36535-2.aspx

When reading the manual though and seeing the connectivity on the back, I can't seem to find anything that would indicate this needs to be vented externally. I assumed you'd need to do that with a dryer?? This will be in a "utility room" against the external back door so I could just close the internal door and open the external door to keep the room ventilated.

So I have a couple of questions please for those who are experienced in such things

1 - Am I incorrect in assuming these need to be vented externally?
2 - Any thoughts on my intended purchase?

Thank you

Mike

Are you sure it has to be a washer dryer combo? There are two big problems with them - if one breaks then you have to have both fixed/replaced. Also, if it's a big wash day (kids!) then you can't be washing one load while drying the other. The only benefit I can see is the saved space.

I see your point.
We've never actually had a dryer before so we aren't fully reliant on it, will just be occasional use. Only got 1x unit space available so cannot have separate. I've actually gone with the "IQ500" model now which was even cheaper with a bigger load, 2yr warranty etc.

I was looking at these, but quickly gave up, didn't see the point in having a higher washing load than drying load.

The split load capacity is what put me off, what's the point of having an 8kg wash if you have to pull half of it out for drying time, also means if you want to throw in a load and forget about it for 3 hours until it's clean and dry you can only do half capacity washes...

If you have the space, I would get a separate machines.

I have a combined washer/dryer, but will be picking up a separate dryer soon and sticking this in the garage.

/edit, I skimmed read your post and see you don't have the space. Combined washer/dryers are ok generally but larger items like towels or jeans take forever to dry especially considering the smaller load capacity.

Got a LG washer drier myself and TBH its not that good as it wets the clothes again to dry them. Which seems to shrink most things.

Conventional drier is lots better

I wouldnt buy a washer drier again, ok for bedsheets though

I have had a few washer dryers over the years and if you don't have the space they are definitely worth having. I moved and now we have a separate dryer which really helps for weekend washes with two kids but a washer/dryer is better than just a washer in my opinion. The last one I had was a Smeg and it dried really well.

Yeah I had a Siemens one and the dryer wasn’t great (would have been a 10 year old model so maybe things are different with current ones). Replaced it earlier this year with a Smeg as it was a straight swap out as regards door panel fitting and half the price of the equivalent Siemens.

Dryer is great on it.
