Washing machine, cannot select a program.

As the titles I cannot select a program on the washing machine UNLESS I turn the power at the wall off and on, then it works fine.

Anyone have any experience of such a thing going on? I thought I would ask on this lovely forum before I shelled out and got the local Euronics repair guy out.

It's a Hoover Dynamic Next washing machine, 5 years old so out of warranty

Check your manual, some machines have a self diagnostic mode where the machine runs through several tests and then throws up an error on the screen if it runs into any issues. However if it's an issue with selecting a program/the programme dial then it'll most likely be a busted PCB. It's not difficult to replace yourself, however depending on the model it can be pricey and there's no guarantee it's the PCB at fault. I'd weigh up the cost of getting an engineer out with the PCB replacement and see if it's worth it. Also try the hoover phone line, they've been helpful in the past when I had an issue with my hoover vacuum cleaner.

I'll also add that I am not a professional, just have lots of experience from trying to keep a Hotpoint going long after the warranty expired.
