Washing Machine literally blew up last night!

Reminds me of my time working in a lab where one of our table top centrifuges had a catastrophic failure at 4500 rpm! The thing sounded like a bomb in the lab!

Shame about the candles though... :p

Did the electrics blow up or did the balancing bit of concrete come loose & batter it to bits ?

Also buy a Bosch or Miele next time. :)

Just talking to my brother about it, got to be a retaining bracket or spring that's let go whilst the machine was at full tilt. Shot the drum upwards, creating this very amusing thread.

RIP candles.

More importantly, RIP wine fridge.

Ive plugged wine fridge in,it looks like its still working, got a few battle scars but it works, there is no coming back for the candles....

I think Watchdog / Daily mail et al will be all over this if so Im (hoping) I get decent co operation from Hotpoint, we have the 5 year parts warranty so IMO they will just want a quick resolution to this as TBH I would not buy one again from them after this happened, we have a very small toddler and she could easily have been in her walker going past it, could have ended very badly....

Job's a goodun'.

You can crank out a merry rattle on the washboard with some thimbles once you're done washing!

Hotpoint appliances are crap. In fact, you will very likely not get anything even halfway decent under 400 notes these days if you buy new.

ow nows.... I just bought one its not bad at all, not as quiet as it could be but its does a good job... they have gone down hill since my dad worked their though ;)

My dad recommends LG direct drive, very good apparently...

Update,

All worked out pretty well in the end

Hotpoint (Indesit) pretty horrified - they have seen the photos.

Coming to collect it now to take to their "R + D" team...

We get a brand new machine on Monday / Tuesday and 70 quid to cover some of the costs of clothes / ornaments that broke.

So pretty shocked at what happened but cant fault the customer service!

Good customer service goes a long way, seems like they are eager to find a out what happened.

My ex is sick of washing machines dieing on her, she used to go for the big drums and lots of features fairly expensive ones but recently she just bought a BEKO for I believe £120

I offered to give her the extra to get a miele or something good since where on good terms and she does all my washing for me but she wasnt interested.

I had the pleasure of installing her BEKO and its actually suprisingly well built , good planning on all the internals which are well laid out , a nice ammount of sound proofing on the inside walls etc.

it sounds uber smooth and makes hardly any noise even on its 1400 spin, she needs to use half the amount of softener/condition etc that her old
£600 machine used

I've got a Bosch and i'm not all that impressed by it.

I love the pics of the exploded machine, unbelievable that something can go that badly wrong. Good luck with the wine fridge!

Bosch make 4 ranges of washing machine, 3 are all the same bar the name and the front panel, oh and of course the price.

People bang on about Miele, I don't doubt that they are good but for the money there are other machines that are better in my opinion.
