Guys, if on a washing machine there is a setting called 'White Cotton 90 deg' but there is also a knob you can turn on the washing machine to set the temperature, if you select that setting, but put the temperature on say 40 deg using the temp knob, would it then wash at 40 deg? Or would it stay on 90 regardless?

Probably sounds like a silly question but just wanna make sure :p

Cant find the instructions anywhere :(

What machine do you have?

I have a Hotpoint, and it works as you describe. A 90 degrees cotton wash can be 'turned down' with the temperature knob. So you get the 90 deg wash cycle at the temperature you require.

I assume the temperature on the preset wash is a maximum temperature for that wash. So if it was a 60c wash and your temperature dial was set to 95c, the washer shouldn't go beyond 60c.

However, if you selected a 60c wash, and the dial was set to 50c, then the washer would only go to 50c.

Basically, I'd imagine user defined settings override the machine's preset settings - until it reached the preset limits.

whats been said previously is spot on.once you select a programme with a preset temp you cant go above it but you can go lower.on some machines users can do this to get a longer wash cycle, useful for dirty stuff that cant take high temps.
