Washing machines

We had a Samsung that lasted 5 years then the main board went duff. Bought a Hoover after that and it's been the worst thing ever. Doesn't seem to wash clothes properly the drum has slipped twice. So glad I took out the extended warranty etc.

When we do the kitchen next year I'm definitely spending a fair whack on a Miele

Most washing machines last about 5-7 years. Of the cheaper brands I have found Hotpoint to be decent, lasting around 7. I guess it depends how much it gets used though. If you have a big family, it'll put more strain on it. Money no object, get a Miele.

Think miele are false economy. Has a 29 quid Indesit was great. Now have a hoover. Great.

No issues with either. I wouldn't buy expensive for a washing machine

Samsung or LG. When we bought our Samsung they were giving out 10 year warranties on the motor (5 on everything else).

Think LG do the same, and use the same 'direct drive' motors.

After much research we went with a Samsung with add wash facility. Seems to have done well so far. The Indesit one that we inherited when we moved into the house finally bit the dust after 7 years which we thought was a pretty impressive show. The 9kg drum we have now is a great upgrade!

My first Bosch lasted 13years, then I had to replace the motor brushes, then it carried fine, but I replaced it at about 14 years old, for a brushless Bosch.
My father has a Miele, never known a machine to need to be repaired so much. But his might be a lemon.

Have been using a Siemens bought from John Lewis in 2019, still going strong and washes closthes really well, have not had to use the 5 year warranty it came with yet. I do all the regular maintenance on it though and rarely use temperatures above 60c. Carry out about 2-3 washes a week.

We had a Hotpoint in the early 90s, lasted about 6 years. My mum then went onto another, it too lasted just over 5 years.

Just to add, I had an LG, it was mid range, was nice and quiet and played a nice tune when it finished. However, after about 8 years it started making a racket and then failed, would need an expensive part replacement (spider or something), so I replaced it with a Bosch. However, I would still buy an LG again.

We had a Beko 7kg that was going for around 6-7 years but we wanted a bigger load capacity so we sold the Beko and got a Haier 10Kg from Ao (it has increased in price since we got ours as we only paid £399). It's a beauty and being direct drive is very quiet. It uses much less energy than the Beko as well and is doing two loads for the amount of energy the Beko was using just for one load on a similar program.

Our LG "died" last year after 10 years of being hammered pretty much daily with baby & kids stuff. I say "died" because it still worked but needed a new bearing which would have required a full dismantle and rebuild, and we wanted one with a dryer. We replaced it with another LG. Bit more expensive compared to say a Hotpoint or whatever, but 5 vs 2 year warranty seemed worthwhile
