Wasn't there a Sempron S754 overclocking thread?

yes, after several posts it gradually got trashed (holds hands up) but is was a while ago and will have got deleted by now

new note is my mate has just bought an oem pc and turns out he has a 939 sempron

It was my thread; and it got thrashed 'cos we were having trouble getting cheap DFI nF3 mobos and there was very little in the way of results.

Now generally these Overclock to 2.4+gig; mine goes to 2.5 with stock volts and the retail heatsink and fan and onload barely reaches 40C. My DFI holds me back as the chipset gives out at 315, so I don't nkow how much further it will go. I have a Vantec chipset cooler I was going to put on to see if I could go further but I got distracted with a 146 ;)

Wish I could have bought a Semp 939! ,I'd have 1 now instead of a 754 rig

939 Semprons occasionally come up on auction sites; people have pulled them from HP and such like PCs. Seems some were supplied to PC builders such as HP but AMD changed it's mind to supply to the public.

I have an old school (32 bit) 2600 and it almost does 2.4ghz, can't remember exact speed but it is happy to sit at 2.2ghz all day, this is on a dfi mobo too. Strange thing is it boots into windows ok but its the gfx that screws up at 2.4ghz??

rxmac, sounds to me that you need to go into the bios and change he agp to 67 allowing it to lock

im gonna try and get him to bench it for me lol

if you go to xs theres is possibly still alive, they were getting like 3 ghz  and a lot above 2.6

I've got a 3100 Sempron E6 arriving this weekend to go in a DFI 250GB I had lying around gathering dust, got a cheap water cooling setup for it so should get some nice results hopefully :)

Tried that, someone suggested setting it even higher though not tried that as yet.
I think that was me. Just what was guggested to me on DFI street. Didn't work for me either. Of all the things I tried to get a higher HTT setting the HTT multi to auto instead of manual work best

ive got a 754 rig here, proper cheap one:

2600+ sempron
ASrock K8upgrade-VM800 (has to option to add a socket 939 card)
1GB corsair value pc3200
geforce 6600 256MB AGP

thats running at 8 x 270 at stock volts =2160mhz

got a bit of a problem thoguh, the ram is running at cpu/12 equaling 180mhz, now if i force it to 200mhz it wont boot any ideas why?

Whats your Htt multi set to? 2.5-3 or Auto?

Tried any extra volt to the CPU?

Just to clarify the RAM is ddr400? and your trying to run it at 300x8=2400Mhz, ram on 133 divider = 200HTT?

May also be that is just the limit of your board?

Htt is set to auto, i have NO voltage control to the cpu, the ram is deffo ddr400 if the cpu is set to stock 8x200 the ram will run at 200mhz, but as soon as i start putting the fsb up, it drops the ram speed, so that when i have the fsb at 270 x 8 the ram is running cpu/12 according to CPUZ which is 180mhz, if i force it to run 200mhz it refuses to post.

i know the cpu wont go any higher but why wotn my ram run at the speed its suposed to?

Looks like this is the new S754 Sempron overclocking thread! :D

I've got my Sempron 3100 to 2.3GHz so far on my Asus K8N (255FSB) ,still finding out its/the mbrds limit atm.

Topitoff
2.5Ghz on stock volts ,nice! :) ,pitty you didn't try that new chipset cooler to see what it's real limit was ;)

Minstadave
Keep us posted on what you get out of that :)

Kona ryan
Nice FSB from that mbrd ,will your mbrd run the 133 divider at std 200FSB? (+ try what nutbusta said)

Runningkid
Older (non 64) Semprons didn't have 64 bit ability,CnQ & SSE3 too I think.

Wait a sec , are you selecting 200MHz RAM setting when your at 270FSB?
If so then your trying to run your RAM at 270MHz as well! ,strictly speaking those memory settings are dividers not speed selectors ,so 200 RAM is 1:1 ,166 divides FSB by 1.2 & 133 by 1.5 etc.
Or maybe I've just misunderstood ya? :o

*******************

I'm upto 2.35GHz now.........

****** typical inst it.

cpuz1.JPG

cpuz2.JPG

on the memory tab every other time ive checked its said (cpu/12) which made it run at 180mhz, but as if by magic it now says (cpu/10) which is 216mhz, which is wonderful.

hanvnt changed ANY bios settings since last checking this.

weird

havnt really done any overclocking since the socket A days, KT333 etc.

EDIT:
nutbusta + assimilator cheers for the info, its all clicked into place now

think runningkid is reffering to all 754 cpus single channel memory controler, as apposed to all 939 cpus dual channel memory contoller :)

tbh you really do need the 9x multiplyer of the 3000/3100 in order to get the best clocking out of these cpus :o

helpfull stuff you should know :)

all semprons with 9x multiplyer and above support c and q, ie, they all have downwards unlocked multi's

you should also note that mobile varients of these chips are in stock in the uk for not much more than there normal counterparts

always try and get the 256kb cache models :)
