Wasn't there a Sempron S754 overclocking thread?

Looks like this is the new S754 Sempron overclocking thread! :D

I've got my Sempron 3100 to 2.3GHz so far on my Asus K8N (255FSB) ,still finding out its/the mbrds limit atm.

Topitoff
2.5Ghz on stock volts ,nice! :) ,pitty you didn't try that new chipset cooler to see what it's real limit was ;)

Minstadave
Keep us posted on what you get out of that :)

Nice FSB from that mbrd ,will your mbrd run the 133 divider at std 200FSB? (+ try what nutbusta said)

Runningkid
Older (non 64) Semprons didn't have 64 bit ability,CnQ & SSE3 too I think.

Htt is set to auto, i have NO voltage control to the cpu, the ram is deffo ddr400 if the cpu is set to stock 8x200 the ram will run at 200mhz, but as soon as i start putting the fsb up, it drops the ram speed, so that when i have the fsb at 270 x 8 the ram is running cpu/12 according to CPUZ which is 180mhz, if i force it to run 200mhz it refuses to post.

i know the cpu wont go any higher but why wotn my ram run at the speed its suposed to?

Wait a sec , are you selecting 200MHz RAM setting when your at 270FSB?
If so then your trying to run your RAM at 270MHz as well! ,strictly speaking those memory settings are dividers not speed selectors ,so 200 RAM is 1:1 ,166 divides FSB by 1.2 & 133 by 1.5 etc.
Or maybe I've just misunderstood ya? :o

I'm upto 2.35GHz now.........

Agreed about the x9 multi ,that's why I choose the 3100 as well as its bigger cache.Though I wouldn't say the bigger cache is that critical ,if I recall rightly it gives about a 5% boost.I wanted the bigger cache for running DC apps ;).

Btw I got my 3100 upto 2.52Ghz when the PC just rebooted itself in windows.Turns out the cheap casecom 350w PSU I was forced to use (the decent one it had suddenly decided it wasn't going to boot) wasn't upto the job.I tested it with a meter & the 12v line was dropping to 11.6v under load at 2.39 GHz! .
So until I RMA the 400w PSU I'm stuck at 2.4GHz ,I'm sure it'll go loads higher though as its still at stock volts.
Oh & I also tested the max FSB of the mbrd ,it hit its max at 300FSB! ,far more than I'd hoped for!:D (though admitidly that was just a quick 20mins P95 test).
I got the RAM (Crucial DDR400) upto 240MHz ,at which point I ran out of time to do further testing.

Are thier any advantages to the mobile chips? lower voltages?

No probs
You must have changed something :p ;)

What no answers? :p

My 3100 is still being held back by a cheapo PSU ,the replacement 400w PCIcase PSUs were both dead! ,wtf!?? ,don't get those ,it seems they have a duff batch atm!
So I'm still awaiting a PSU :(

Anyone else overclocked Semprons lately?

2.6GHz is a nice overclock
Def vcore is 1.4v

Btw my Sempron rig is running an Asus K8N ,I can alter the vcore over a wide range:)
Are you sure you haven't just missed the option to enable it?
I actually lowered mine as the Asus K8N over volts the cpu (typical Asus :p) ,I set it down to 1.375 (IIRC) to give 1.4v

Ah I think I might know what it is.

Though I haven't confirmed it someone told me that C&Q is only enabled on Semprons from 3000 upwards ,that might explain why I can increase vcore & you can't.Though TBH I don't see why C&Q should make any difference to being able to manually adjust the vcore *shrug* ,so not sure ;)

My bios version is 1009 ,C&Q is disabled

To enable manual vcore adjustment you need to set 'AI overclock Tuner' to 'Manual' & set 'FID/VID change' to 'Manual' too.
Have you done that?

Yes

I just found this in an Asus FAQ
Due to the CPU's limition, FID/VID adjust option will be hidden in BIOS if system detect user installs those Sempron Processor which can not support Cool 'n' Quiet function.ex: Sempron 2600+ or Sempron 2800+.

That's daft! :(

I still don't follow you why an older bios should make any difference though ,never mind ;)

Btw re the Asus FAQ, it blames the CPU for the vcore limitation, that would appear to be a bald face lie! ,as AFAIK other manufacturers do not have this problem!.
(I guess you found that out too Nutbusta? ,just wanted to spell that out to other readers).

Update on my rigs overclocking.

Finally got a decent working PSU!.
Currently got my Semp 3100 @2.51GHz :) with ~1.44v (1.425v setting) ,I tried higher but these mbrds seem to have another vcore limitation  ,no matter which setting I choose over 1.45v the voltage never goes over 1.46v  ,so that is limiting overclocking somewhat.
I was hoping for 2.6-2.7GHz but 2.51GHz isn't bad ,so I'll live with it ;)
