Wasps Nest in Loft

Hi,

So last time I was in the loft earlier in the year, this wasn't there... it's a large football sized wasp nest (and some extreme cobwebs):eek::eek:

Any suggestions on how to defeat this? The loft is not boarded so have to be careful where you step, which means I'd probably die if I approached it and had to do a quick escape.

Is this the kind of thing that will be 100% wasp free if I wait till winter and get rid of it? Or should I get a pro in if it might cause damage?

Unless you are getting rid of it for a specific reason such as impending work in that exact area, I wouldn't bother removing it. A wasp nest only lasts as long as the queen who began it, so if it's old (unless you have a wasp problem then it is old) there is no need to touch it. It won't be inhabited again.

:edit: hang about, are those wasps in the picture? If so then if then the main aim should be to deal with them if they're a nuisance, but that's normally best done by planting a poison at an a common entry/exit point and allowing them to take it with them in to the nest. Removal of the nest isn't necessary at all to deal with the wasps.

Thanks, yes it's definitely active now and they are flying around in the loft however so far at least haven't escaped elsewhere or caused a problem. So I guess i'm happy leaving it as long as it won't triple in size or something? then I'd need napalm.
