...I passed my mod 2

My examiner was quite strict so my instructor says. Made a few errors on the 1000s of roundabouts in newcastle but other than that it was ok. The examiner was quite nit picking on my lane discipline and gave me a grilling back at the test centre, my instructor said he always does it though.

Not that it matters, because the L plates are OFF! :D

Just got charged £45 to swap my insurance over onto a full licence though grr

I really should know what the mod2 bit means, I will google it at some stage, but by almost-killswitch's post I assume it's restricted to something still?

Oh also this: Congrats! :D

Mod 2 is the final test - on road riding (just like a car test basically). As i'm under 21, my licence is restricted. I can only ride a bike which has 33bhp (but can be any engine size). Hope this helps!

By soon, I hope you mean this afternoon? .

Congrats though

Haha, to be honest I did think about going up the dealers but they shut at 5, I wouldn't buy from DK anyway. Probs nip up on monday to have a sit on some bikes to see how they feel.

Congrats mate... Can you tell me mate please how mod1 went and your theory test went?

I'm 16 atm, 17 in a few months, and will be looking to do my restricted bike licence, so going for the baby ninja zxr400 and then going to restrict it! Just wondering how it went etc for you and what you found easy/difficult.

Oh, and how many hours training did you have as-well? Hope you don't mind me asking :)

Oh god where do I start... EDIT: Just noticed you're from Warrington. They have mod 1 and 2 test centres there as far as I know so you're a lucky one! They definitely have a mod 2 as my instructor said he's had someone take their bike test there

CBT - Self explaintory?

THEORY
Theory was the hardest part for me, just learnt the questions as usual for a car,m but failed by one mark! However when retaking it a few weeks later hungover from the night before, I passed

Cost is around £35? at the time I took it I think.

MOD 1
Mod 1 is simple maneuvors, so you no longer have to do a emergency stop, U turn etc on road in the main test. I had been riding a bike for a year before, so my experience helped MASSIVELY. If you havent rode a bike, get professional tuition for this, as you will need to learn observations. Youtube videos are a great help, my instructor actually put one on too (
) which I found useful, but there's others too.

It can be difficult to find a Mod1 test centre if you're not near a major area, there's not many around me for midlands.

Cost of Mod 1 = £15. I found it cheaper to just enter the test than get tuition or practice, but that's just me.

MOD 2
Ok, this is the main test. It involves various on road exercises in various traffic conditions. Basically, a rideout through town and nearby roads to make sure you're capable of riding on the road to a sufficient standard, using all observations nessessary, where appropriate.

The layout follows the basic car test, examiner checks your documents and then asks you three questions, a show me (e.g. show me that the brake lights work was mine), a tell me (tell me how you would tell there's sufficient brake fluid in the reservoir), and a question on carrying pillions and how it affects a motorcycle.

Then you go out on your rideout, and if all goes well, you pass!

For my mod 2, I had a day's (10am-4pm) and a hour lesson before my test for professional tuition. Other than mod 2, I had NONE whats so ever.

Overall cost:
Test fees:
CBT = Included with my bike - usually around £100.
Theory = £35each (£70 total as I failed first time)
Mod 1 = £15
Mod 2 = £80

£160

£100 for tuition

Total = £260

Note that I didn't get loads of tuition as I had already been riding on the roads on L plates for a year, I didnt see what I'd learn by having LOADS of hours of lessons, I'd just be repeating myself. So thats why I only had 7hours of lessons, and found them invaluable as they showed me my weaknesses (lane discipline - roundabouts etc) and helped me through them.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for that detailed explanation, it has gave me a clear idea on what to do!

The prices seem very reasonable compared to the full direct access, like I said before, I ain't old enough to do the DA, so that's why I'm going for a restricted bike licence.

I feel confident with the theory as i've been training for about 1 week now using this: http://www.all4bikers.com/theory/motorbiketheorytest.php?postcode=wa

I know this only does part of the theory, but I will be looking at the other part of the theory.

The only concern is mod1... I forget things quite quickly and I'm clumsy sometimes so its a 50/50. I shouldn't need much training my self as I've been riding for 1-2 months now and I do think I ride very safely.

I start some training on the 9th of October which I can't wait for! Thank you very much mate for the great explanation.

It's alright, I'd rushed it as I was falling asleep, had work at half 9 this morning. Don't forget it was cheap for me as I skipped a few corners due to my own experience.

The only concern is mod1...

Make yourself aware what's a minor fault and what's an instant fail.

Not stopping front wheel in between blue cones is an instant fail

Not going fast enough twice is an instant fail

No lifesavers instant fail

The rest they are leniant on, you'll be OK if you have some training and don't rush the whole DAS thing
