Guy in Aberdeen being fined for damaging road after collision with a sheep

A council which billed a motorcyclist for damaging a road when he collided with a stray sheep has defended its decision. Biker Moray Ferguson was sent a bill for £200 by Aberdeenshire council after his bike hit a sheep which had wandered into his path on the unclassified Cuminestown to Fyvie Road.
The 47-year-old was flung from his black Honda Fireblade motorbike which burst into flames. He suffered a broken hip socket, pelvis and collarbone, seven cracked ribs and a collapsed lung in the accident.

If the Sheep owner was negligent, he will foot the bill for the road and the bike. But I suspect this isn't the case.

Anyhow, £200 is nothing, I don't even see how this is news. My brother was charged £600 for a shovel of sand when he crashed and spilled a little oil.

I was billed for the council clean up after my bike accident. That was about £600 IIRC and I just sent it onto the 3rd parties insurance as the claim was against them.

It's written as if this action is uncommon. If the sheep were kept on moorland with no physical boundaries then the rider should have known the risks. I'm not sure what they mean about an unclassified road mind you.

i once left a lamp post a bit wonky, 15*-20* lop sided. the insurer didnt hear a dicky bird from the coucil at all

but that could have been a genuine accident..I go fishing a lor and one of the roads is unfenced moorland with many sheep..you simply slow down when approaching any sheep to a speed you can manouver safely or stop safely if they do a runner into the road

if this guy was on a road that was fenced and didnt expect the sheep then I can say he's been harshly treated, if its a road thats unfenced with freely roaming livestock he simpyl didnt take enough care and was probably going to fast to avoid hitting the animal.

Well if you take one completely out the lamp psot will cost £1000 and 30 quid for a police report then further money for someone to go make it safe.

Hmm now I think about it why didnt I go to the news about it.
