My old setup involved downloading avi's on my PC and watching them on the xbox xbmc whilst they were downloading (ftp), this worked well, as with 1mbit speed, it roughly downloaded at the same bitrate as the thing i was watching.

Im now using a MCE to watch downloaded material, but have to wait until its finished to start viewing. Is there any windows video player that does the same thing? e.i able to watch avi's before the are completed?

cheers

I seem to remember that Mplayer classic will do this - or there's something specific like Avipreview you can use. Or if you just want to test the beginning of something or have a big chunk of a file, DivFix will repair an incomplete Avi for you.

Typically other players won't play incomplete Avi files because they have index information at the end of the file - the programs mentioned above and what you've used in the past are able to rebuild that information.
