We currently have Dish network which has a good amount of channels but id like to get BBC to watch such classic programmes as eastenders, x factor, spooks and the hustle.

Is there anyway to get English channels in the US?

What? Without paying licence fee? Blasphamy!!

The Beeb does have world service but I don't think it's exactly the same as here.

They have BBC America which plays a small range of shows from the various English channels. I watched Peep Show whilst I was in the states on it (which is usually on Channel 4). :)

If you know someone in the UK with a nice upload speed, you could always sling. Although I believe placeshifting is still a bit of a legal grey area with no clear guidelines as to its legality, and officially speaking Sling Media do not condone the viewing of other people's Slingboxes.

Otherwise, your only real option is BBC America – which has limited programming and lags behind BBC programming in the UK with regards to airing dates.

thanks this slingbox seems interesting! its just because although we get shoes like spooks (MI5) here they seem to be really old repeats which just dont cut it.

could i not put a tv card into a UK based computer and have it stream the tv over the net?

You could very well do that. Using VLC but you'd need a dedicated upstream of >1.5mbits to get any sort of reasonable quality. Though if you're based in the US the logistics of setting it all up could be problematic for you.

DVB-T receiver inside a server at a datacenter in central London? Reception permitting could be a viable solution for your bandwidth needs. :)

I've seen more than one show on 'English' BBC that was made in BBC Wales actually
Production mention did I not. Merely what was broadcasted. It was not a comment on borders, devolution etc.
