My girlfriend and I got our first home together this week. Thing is she is Portuguese so I would like to surprise her with her domestic channels, at least some of them. Would make it easier for me to learn the language too.

The house has a sky minidish that won't be used, as Virgin are coming to install cable anyway. It's plugged direct into my tv right now (Sony Bravia KDL-50W656a) and gets the UK FTA channels. Can that dish be used? I guess it will need to be re-aligned.

How much would it cost to get it set up? With or without new equipment.

Thanks

Have a look on a website called lyngsat, it should tell you which satellite carries Portuguese channels, and which are FTA/encrypted. Its easy enough to realign the dish with a satellite finder but you may need a bigger dish. A fitter should charge anything upwards of £50 I would imagine.

may need a card for portuguese satellite channels she wants, I used to pay 40 quid to get my dish aligned to the hotbird satellite for eastern european sat channels, but had to get a card for any decent channels, may be able to pick one up on the bay.

I should add that most Poles here just get on the roof and one wiggles the dish while one watches the screen, dont necessarily need a meter lol
