Why does Sony have to make everything so darn complicaded. First I find that I can't send it files over the network, now this...

Anyways, I fancy watching some movie files on my projector. First of all, I have them converted to MPEG2 (and som of them to MP4) using PS3 video 9. Then I plant them on my external hard drive. My PS3 recognises the drive as a "USB device", yet when I go to the "movies" section of the cross media bar it doesn't find any movies. What am I doing wrong?

Your're thinking the PS3 is a 'computer'. Don't believe the Sony propagandaz!1111 ;)
If only I had this much bother using my 360 as a MC Extender! ;)

Maybe I should just build myself an HTPC?

If you've not put the videos in a subfolder marked "VIDEO" they won't show up. Press the triangle button to browse the disk hierarchy.

For God sake! They're really picky about subfolders and the like aren't they? I wonder if there is any real reason for this?

Thanks

Latest Gen consoles are next to useless as media centres!
Get a cheap xbox and use xbmc or if you want hi-def build a cheap media-pc with mediaportal untill they get hacked ;)

did you highlight the USB drive, press the triangle and click display all?? it is a pain in the butt, but i always have to do that when moving files on USB sticks.

I got it working!

Thanks for the "triangle" suggestion folks. It works a treat!

I might do that anyways, simply because I love the look of those Silverstone HTPC cases.
