Looking for a bit of advice on watching orders.

I've been watching SG1 for the first time and really enjoying it  Not sure how I missed it when it was on. So I've just finished season 7 and I understand Atlantis starts running concurrently with seasons 8-10.

I'm not sure if I should watch 8-10 of SG1 and then start Atlantis or try and watch them in some order similar to broadcast order. I've not seen any Atlantis either so I don't know how much the two series have to do with one another.

Basically I don't want to run into spoilers for Atlantis events while watching "ahead" in SG1.

So what's best to do? No spoilers please... :)

There arent any spoilers that i can remember. But there are occasions when characters from Sg-1 end up in atlantis and vis versa.

If it were me, i would finish SG-1, then the SG-1 films (Ark of truth and the other one) then Atlantis.

Excellent. Already have Ark of Truth in the boxset I think. I'll need to pick up the other one too.

I hope you started off with the original film :D

Of course :D

i would stop sg1 at s7, s8,9, 10 wernt too good in my opinion

Yeah, a lot of people reckon the same it seems. Gonna get my money's worth though, and I'll probably be one of the ones who loves it all.

It really doesn't matter, I watched SG-1 in order, then Atlantis. There is very little overlap between the two (a bit with characters but none with plot afaik)

SG1 did drop off in the last few seasons, also the last season of Atlantis never really got started and I thought it was a season of fillers which added nothing to the story. TBH a bit of a let down.

I have to agree that the later series weren't as good as the first so don't be too disappointed if the ending feels a bit of an anticlimax. That said they are awesome, just not as super awesome as the first few seasons :)

I started Atlantis when I was on SG-4 or something like that. Didn't really have any spoilers from what I remember. Season 6 or 7 was off standard though. Still Stargate is fanatastic!

I disagree completely! Season 9 and 10 were by far the best in the show (and the franschises) run and added some much needed life!

Keep going with it.

The Power of *** *** can not be denied! ;)

The two episodes where they discover the Atlantean outpost in the Antarctic were meant to be the "real" end of SG-1. As in, the story writers end. But the studios and the guys with money managed to squeeze out a couple more series.

This end of SG-1 was originally going to be a Hollywood blockbuster movie but this was cancelled when they decided to continue the series.

IMO SG-1 went seriously downhill when all the "Ori" storyarc started.

But it also suffered big setbacks for all long-term fans when Richard Dean Anderson (O'Neil) and Don S Davis (Gen. Hammond) left the show.

There is apparently a new series starting this year called Stargate Universe. Which is going to replace Atlantis.

I really don't understand why people don't like the last two series.

OP Don't read the rest of my post!!

Two excellent new leads who had all ready proven themselves on Farscape.

A new ememy that was actually strong, for the first time in ages there was a real sense of danger.

I think sometimes fans can be stuck in the past somewhat and not accept change. Look at 24 the writers mostly stuck to the same old formula for season 6 and it was pretty much panned by critics. The best shows move on and adapt rather than have the same thing going on year after year IMO :).

I watched all of SG-1 again recently and am now up to season II of Atlantis - enjoying it all greatly thus far - Rodney is my favourite character just for how stupid he can be yet how he nigh on always saves everyone!

I am interested more so in Universe now that they've cast Robert Carlisle as the lead scientist in the show, will have to wait and see how that all pans out !

there was an ep of SG1 in s10 i think that may give you a few spoilers for atlantis. It had quite a few of the main cast from atlantis in the beginning with one of them staying throughout the ep

That ep's the Pegasus Project

A bit OT but this has just reminded me. The other day I was driving up the M6 somewhere around Liverpool/Manchester/Preston (sorry, can't be more specific) and on a farm on the LHS of the motorway was a Stargate in a field, with metal ramps leading up to it and a DHD etc.

I'm guessing it was a copy/mock-up rather than a proper working one. ;):D
