Took my computer to the shop cause of overheating, guy said i need a serious water kit in, he suggested a thermaltake big water, cant remember the series, this kit will cool 2 x 8800 GTX OC2 North and South bridge, 4GB Corsair Ram 8500 and a qx6800 quad core cpu.

Case specs if needed

Thermaltake Kandalf VA9000SWA
Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard
Quad Core 6800 @ 2.93 Ghz
2 x BFG 8800 GTX OC2
4GB Corsair Dominator 8500
2 x 150 GB WD Raptors in Raid 0
1 TB Hitachi HDD
BFG 1000W PSU

He quoted me £750 with labour included is this about right or should i go else where, or is there a cheaper kit i can get that would do the job?

Thanks in Advance
Mike

no water cooling expert but from what i read that kit is pants.. you could buy a top of the range water cooling setup for £200 which would be 100 times better than that kit..

but i'll wait for some of the gurus to come post with what you need

think i would be looking at the route cause of the overheating first before spending cash on a water cooling system.

What is overheating? What are your temps?

reseat the heatsink? - is the system overclocked at all?

A standard stock system should not just overheat and shutdown

Who confirmed that it was the heat that was causing an issue - Intel cpu's will throttle the speed and voltage to control the temps so i would be suprised if the heat was shutting your system down

the temp was hitting over 70 on avast, guy in the shop is going to re apply more thermal paste to cpu and underclock it a little so temp will drop more, think im going to have to buy a kit myself and get someone else to fit it, anyone in the swansea area :)

MORE paste is the last thing it needs. He really is a pillock mate :D

If you can manage a trip to stafford, I'll take u 2 OcUK for decent kit and fit it for you :)

Lol he sounds full of ****. Thermaltake are supposed to be awful.

Edit: Is that £750 just for the thermaltake watercooling case and installation?!!

Thats what he's saying mate :D Definitely extracting the urine :D

I think this might be the bloke in the shop:

not quite sure what was over heating but it definatly is, at the point im using a house fan blowing inside to keep it cool. the idiot say's cause i have 2 8800 GTX's its raising the temp even more even though i have 7 x 12" fans inside circulating air, will have to buy a kit in the next month and get it fitted somewhere out of wales.

Must have taken it to at least 10 different people and none of them had a clue.
whats the best kit to get in my situation? And would OcUK instal the kit for me if i buy off their site :)

LOL £750 for just the WC kit?!?

please dont fall for it, he'd be laughing his head off if you did.

He'd basically be charging 600 quid for installation.
