Hey guys, finally trying to install my water cooling system. But come accross a problem the hdd coolers have 1/4" barbs I brought some 1/2" barbs to replace them but due to the poor design they can not be fitted. So I need a reducer from 1/2" to 1/4". All I can find is 12mm to 8mm Reducer and 12mm to 10mm Reducer, will either of these do?

1/4" ID (inner Diameter) pip is what would normaly be used over the 1/4" OD barb.
Depends if you can stretch the 6mm (1/4) pipe over the 8mm barb.

so 1/4" is 6mm and what is 1/2"

I can't believe you just asked that....:)

If a quarter inch is 6mm (6.35 actually), a half inch will be....<drum roll>.....twice that! 12.7mm.

duuuur nor can I..

oh and I got it wrong its 1/2" to 3/8"

So long as we are talking about the barb size , or pipe ID.

Most common sizes:

1/4" = 6mm
3/8" = 10mm
1/2" = 13mm (or sometimes 12mm)

Thread sizes are also measured in Inches (BSP or BSPT) and the relative hole diameter would roughly relate to (not exact)

1/8"BSP = 9mm
1/4"BSP = 12mm
3/8"BSP = 15mm

So its important to not get confused between pipe ID size (or OD if push-fit fittings) and barb pitch sizes if replacing barbs
