Looking into water cooling my PC at present, looked at quite a few systems and kits. I was wondering if i use just a GPU block ie one that doesnt cover the ram, would using just ram sinks be ok with no air flow around them? Or would one that covers the ram be much cooler?

As long as your case has reasonable airflow there is no problem with the system you suggest (in fact, wc'ing the ram in 'most' cases is pointless - the exception being if you pump more voltage through them, but even then I've seen a phaze rig that gained... 1Mhz  )

Advantage of something like the Maze 4-1 GPU block is you can fit a Pelt under it ;)

cool thanks didnt think be much of a difference! Just worked out i can move a fan and have it blow air across the ram anyway! Didnt want to get a card specific one as ill prob change the card in the next 6 months anyway!

I used maze 4 on my 7900gt and works fine. The ram coolers add massive restriction to the loop and cost a lot. I just bought some ram sinks and stuck them on but as stock coolers dont cool the ram i doubt it makes any difference

The Aquaextreme MP-1 is an excellent gpu block and can be had for £25. Thats way cheaper than the alternatives and offers equal performance too.

You can buy Zalman ramsinks (x8, 4x low profile for the front of the blocks and 4x bigger ones for the sides) at around £8 for the pack. It's what i use on my cards and my overclocks have gone up quite a bit since switching to watercooling. :D

cheers for the advice!! Seems like my orignal zalman mem sinks gonna be ok ! Still looking at which water cooling system, between the waterchill system or a custom xspc. Water chill is very good but the overclockers one is only 10 mm where i can get a 1/2 xspc pump etc pretty much the same but the watercool one slightly better! No rush at the mo so gonna keep lookin
