Water Cooling Help?

What amazing things do you want to hear about a £70 motherboard that overclocks like a demon and has all the features any sensible person could ever want? It's the top-selling Core2Duo aftermarket board in the UK - it's sold more than the Gigabyte DS3 even though it's been out half the time. It's a truly phenomenal motherboard.
.
So true.
I paid £170 for my CPU and Mobo in sig and it runs happily at 3.4Ghz, that is a tremendous price to performance ratio.

This is gonna sound really dumb, but who is EVGA?? I have never heard of them

Are they a good make like Asus?

Thanks,

James.

Yes, they are a very good brand. They don't make their own stuff, but their support is very, very impressive. Make sure you get an -A1 board though - don't buy an -AR as they don't clock quads very well.

I have just been looking around, as you do ;)

I'll defo give the EVGA board ago, but I have read that the temps arn't very good on the mainboard and the bios will need flashing as soon as i get it???

The BIOS aint much of a problem as I have done that many times, but the temps worry me...if i buy the swiftech ultra plus kit, will that be enough to cool the cpu + mainboard + 2 graphics cards? or am i going to struggle?

Thanks a lot,

James.

Right I am going to go for one 8800GTS EVGA 320mb insted of 2 cards.

So will the swiftech handle all that? and what extra will I need to buy for the 8800GTS to cool the ram and the gpu??

Thanks a lot,

James.

My question is: If i'm only looking to water cool the CPU for now and maybe cool the GFX at a later date is this what i need: Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra Watercooling Kit (Socket 462/478/LGA775/754/939/940)

i have a corking 6420 on a Freezer 7 pro doing around 32 idle 53 load. First clock @ 3.4 with stock 1.35 volts, orthos stable for 17hrs. I'm also gonna take the chip out and lap it before i install water cooling.

Also will this water cooling kit fit in my Silverstone TJ09?

If you get the Ultra kit, it comes with a special mounting parts for the 8800 series gfx cards as well as the RAM headsinks for it. I wasn't originally intending to WC my 8800 but I saw this in the kit and thought, what the hell!

It comes with 8 heatsinks afaik- you need 12 for the GTX, unless they recently updated the package.

I was like u m8 only ever o/ced and had AMD before. was going for same as u x2 6000am . idea wasto futrueproof rdy for amd quad. but after asking on here and thinking about it, when done the waitting game before better stuff has come out were some bits were on new sockets. so ended up replacing the lot.

last rig was 3200winny /asus mobo/ ocz3700 plat /inno3d 6800gt. what lasted 2yrs before started to struggle with new games. lost planet demo dx9 lowish settings 4fps av.

now E6600 c2d/evga680ia1/Crucial Ballistix 5300/bfg oc2 8800gtx. same game but dx10 just about maxxed out 77fps av. pluss more tweaking todo.

just a little performance boost :)

sry for the pimp my rig

I got the kit a week or so ago and it had enough for me. Card hasn't fried yet so I'm hoping theres enough there :D

The heatsinks just fell off my card over a 5 day period, hasnt made any difference to the stable clock though.

Do you not think that by running without those heatsinks you're probably significantly shortening the life of the graphics card?

Exactly the reason why I will only use full blocks. Too many times have memory sinks fallen off my old cards - once shorting out a motherboard

The same thing happend on mine once i got it into the waterloop, came back into the room and the screen was off but the cpu was still running.
As i have learnt in these situations dont rush into anything. I turned the pc off and noticed the offending sink.
I then went for a run and came back clear headed.
Removed the rest of the HS's and rebooted.
All was well.
The original mem cover didnt make great contact by using the rubbish pads and i now have cool air blowing underneath the card so all in all i think the mem cooling is better than at stock.
Having said that i have looked at the 3M conductive tape that i believe is far stickier so i may get some and re-attach the sinks.
Ta da
