Can one install a watercooling loop with no res? If so what needs to be done in terms of bleeding?
I have my loop ready to go but im not really happy with my res and just had the thought of a no res loop.
Also a question on bleeding, does the filling point on any loop need to be the highest point? If it isnt then whats the risk/drawback.
Thanks

Just use a T connector just before the inlet of the pump and a pipe going to the top of the case.

Indeed, been doing this for years myself.

Thats what i have seen around the internet being done. However, bleeding this method is an issue for some on other forums. Should i be aware of anything? Main thing is the amount of time it takes to bleed the t line way.

Stick a funnel in the top, fill, then start the pump slowly adding fluid.

It doesn't take long to get the main big bubbles out, but the finer bubble will take a day or so to completely work their way out.

Really you should run the system for 12 hours to test for leaks. After this time the majority of the fine bubbles will be gone.

It is so much easier to use a res that I do not see the point in not using one.
Also, no the filling point does not need to be at the top, just make it right before the pump inlet & you'll be fine although it is slightly easier if you can connect a pipe & take it to the top..

You can do it without even a T and that doesn't need to bleed. You just have to assemble your loop outside the case in a bath so that the entire system is full of water before closing the loop.

The problem is that the tubing isn't completely sealed so water vapour can get out and you have no fill point to top up.

If you aren't happy with your res, get a better one. In all my years of doing this, I have yet to see a better solution than the XSPC res that replaces the top of a DDC pump.
