I want to invest in water cooling but dont no which setup to get, only wanna spend upto 100 quids to start off. At the mo my 3700+ is air cooled and is around 34 C idle and about 38 C load. Would WC get my temps down into the late 20s?

Cheers Matt

Depends on the ambient temp....remember the water can go no cooler than air and usually (with a good setup) you will hit 7C above air temp. i.e. Air temp 21C (average) +7C = 28C water temp = ~29C CPU temp idle. The load is where you really gain though as this would probably load at about 35C or so (depending on clocks and volts).

For £100 I wouldn't bother personally. You need about £150 to actually make a decent improvement on air cooling...

Then again, if you can pick up some really cheap parts... it might be worth it.

e.g. single heatercore = £20
Laing DDC (10W) = £35
Swiftech Apogee/MCW6002 = £25-30
Tubing + fittings (T piece + barbs) + additive = £15

So on second thoughts, it can be done....

For £150, I'd go with the Swiftch Apex kit... without a doubt if you were buying a kit... but then again, I'd go custom still with the following:

Swiftech MCR220 = £30
Apogee/MCW6002 = £25-30 OR AqX MP-05 LE £42
Laing DDC+ (18W) Ultra w/ Alphacool Pro top = £65
Fans + tubing + fittings = £20

...and welcome to the forums! :D.

cheers for the advice, what other kits are available which are good ??
None in the UK :D - my opinion though!.

If you really want a decent kit, unfortunately the states is the only place to get it - but then you have the problem of import duties etc and if anything goes wrong. I cannot think of any decent kit apart from the Swiftech kits. All the others have some major flaws be it tube size or pumps or poor radiators. Custom is really easy and there are loads of watercoolers on this forum ready and willing to help point out the right parts and everything.

NB - all the above advice is based on the assumption that you will be overclocking rather than going merely for a silent kit. You said you wanted low temps which is why I assumed you were clocking. If you just want lower temps, then I suggest save your money - as long as the temps are reasonable, then it's fine.

Yeah, well then my advice above stands then. You have very good temps from what you said already - though I think they aren't being reported incorrectly. 4C delta is too good for air cooling - what cooler do you currently have?

To give an example of how good w/c'ing can be - my X2 4400+ @ 2.8ghz with 1.45v would load at 41C dual prime. With my ooold 3700+ SD, I could load at about 35C @ 2.7ghz.

Hmm, then those temps are being reported incorrectly I'm sure. It's up to you now how you proceed, but I would certainly look into a custom setup.
