Hi

I am going to build a new pc soon.. and i have sorted it all out except the case.. as i am thinking whether it is worth investing in water cooling (i do plan to overclock) do you think it is worth it ? and if so what do you think of cases that come pre-fiitted with water cooling equipment ? (can't link for obvious reasons, but they were cooler master) or what about something like the Zalman Reserator 2 ?

Thanks

well i have a c2d e6300 (1.8 Ghz) so i would like quite a bit of overclock... what should i do ?

also slightly of subject but still answer the above question.. is THIS power supply any good and is THIS RAM any good and would it allow me to overclock successfully... :cool:

I was using a Koolance watercooling rig. Temps were great. Had my E6600 up to 3.4Ghz and Load Temps were never really above 45'C.

However, I bought a cheap 8800gtx and because my PSU was not powerful enough to power the watercooling plus the 8800 (and I cant afford a new PSU) I have went back to Air Cooling. I use a Thermaltake Big Typhoon which is a decent Air Cooler but does not give me the results of the water cooling system. I am getting higher Temps at load and my E6600 is only sitting at a low 3Ghz.

I did have an E6300 before, and I used Air Cooling to achieve 3.2Ghz (Again a Thermaltake Big Typhoon). Temps were fine, but I cant remember exactly what they were. Ran stable though.

Watercooling will give you good results, if you are willing to spend a few pounds getting a decent watercooling system. Is it worth all the extra? Do you have any watercooling systems in mind? What type of Air Cooler do you have? Some high end air coolers can be as effective if not more as low end watercoolers.

I will be going back to watercooling eventually, but for now Air is fine.

Any chance of a more detailed spec. What type of GFX card do you have?

To be honest you should get an eclipse 62 and a high end air cooler (tuniq tower or the noctua is good) and spend the money you save on getting better components, eg cas4 ram and a tagan psu.

oh that is pointless... so do you think that water cooling is a waste of my money ? and what would you suggest doing/getting instead ?

I agree with this. get yourself a decent case (Akase Eclipse or Mirage 62, Lian Li or Silverstone), cooler and decent components. Save your money by not buying any watercooling at the moment.

If you buy a decent case then you can always add watercooling later. With good stuff you will get a nice high overclock with your E6300 anyway.

Well from what you have said you are looking at getting so far, it seems a waste. You would be better off spending the money on some good air cooling and better components.

First of all you need to tell us your budget and what you need.

Edit: ^^ to fast for me :p

well my budget is £550.. maybe a bit more.. and i need

1) cooling.. (maybe not water now..)

2) new case - was thinking antec 900
the space i have for a pc case is
depth = 48cm ish
width = 28.5 cm
height = 56 cm

3) ram

4) psu

5) motherboard

6) graphics... do i need GTS ?

hope this helps..

Thanks :cool:

Someone will come along in a minute and spec you somethin, but for around that price I would recommend:

gigabyte S3 (the 965p one) / 650i (pick a brand)
e4300
noctua cooler
geil 2gig pc6400 c4 (will be way better for ocing then the c5 stuff)
probs and x1950 pro for the graphics or maybe a 320mb 8800gts if you can stretch
and a 520W corsair/tagan
for a case get the lianli pc7+
