Hi there, i am thinking of getting my first water cooling kit, just a few questions tho.
how much maintance is involved in it.
is it best to buy a cheapo kit? i am just wanting it for the cpu the now but wouldnt mind a kit that later could add a gpu block without a hole new setup.
and can anyone recomend a good kit without going mental with price.
cheers for any help ;)

Hey,

That would be your best bet as a simple beginners kit. This only cools the CPU, but once you learn a little about it, it is easy to add additional blocks to cool other parts of your PC.

As maintenance goes... maybe other will be able to help more. Id say coolant needs to be replaced once a year. Been using the same coolant since December. Took the RAD off the other week to rid it of dust.

yeh cheers mate, i was looking at that kit, thought it might be the ticket.

am thinking a kit if maintained will last for years? as its a bit out of my price range but will prob be worth it if it will do me for several cpu's over the years.

Yes, should do, there is of corse general wear and tear, but thats what i'm planning on doing.

Oh and of corse, different socket CPUs might need a new CPU block if the the existing one doesn't support.

Why would you spend £160 on one of those kits for a cpu when you can get top quality parts for £170 to cool the cpu. I was under the impression that kits dont actually cool much better then air but cost a lot more.

This is what i recommend. But i cant say where id buy it from:

ThermoChill PA120.3

Swiftech Apogee GTX Extreme Performance CPU Waterblock (LGA775)

Swiftech MCP655-B™ 12 VDC Pump (No speed controller)

Swiftech MCRES-Micro

Masterkleer 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) PVC Tubing (get about 6ft to 8ft)

Masterkleer 7/16" is best because it will fit very tightly over a 1/2" barb if you dip it in warm water first and is pritty much leak proof. The masterkleer tubing also bends a lot better then that which you get in the kits.

Also i know 2 of the parts are Swiftech but i believe the pumps are both different and the cpu block is the new and improved version of the one in the kit. The 120.3 rad means you can easly upgrade at a later date to include more things in the loop.

Im new to water cooling. But it just seems like a better deal to me.

:EDIT:

Also i would get these two chemicals to add into your distilled water in about a 5% dose:

G11 Coolant (Corrosion Inhibitor) 50ml

Petra'sTech "PT_Nuke" Concentrated Biocide (10ml)

Shouldn't need any cleaning with it.
