Hi all,system will be
4770k cpu
7950 gpu
16 g ram
Asus Z87-K mb
600 w ps.

my current system is a 2500k with a thermaltake frio air cooler i don,t really overclock just play games my temp on this system at idle range from 28c to 34c,under load using prime 95 my temps did,nt go above 60c (ran prime for 40 mins.
So my question is would you spend £40 on a air cooler or £90 on a h80i and would i get any better temps with the water system.
Regards Ady

Top end air usually competes with closed water systems, so it depends on your preference really! P.s I don't think you'll notice any difference going from a 2500k to 4770k.

Hi illuz, yea not kinda upgrading, lad starts secondary school soon so will need a pc for home work,so he might as well use mine while i get a new system after all it,s 3 yr old now:-)
Also what is the likely difference in noise between the two coolers.

Air coolers are usually quieter, cool as well, cost less, and are more dependable.. more dependable because there is no moving parts in the cooler, only cooling fan/fans.

If CLC pump fails (and they do) there is NO COOLING because coolant does not move!

Air cooler fan fails and system still cools just not as well.. and any fan can be put on with rubber bands until a replacement fan can be found.

Nice present to the young one mate! If you were going to cool a 4770k, the bigger and better the cooler the better. These chips run very hot!

Not really looking to overclock at all, most of my mates have the arctic cooler 7 or 13 but that is on ivy bridge so not sure how that one would do on the Haswell.

When you get into high end air coolers, you won't see a performance difference between air and closed loop water cooling systems. I would therefore recommend making your decision on what you prefer the look of.

There is no such thing as a 90 day warranty mate.Im pretty sure thats a breach of EU consumer law.A £50 cooler that broke after 90 days and under a year would fall under the reasonable good clause so it would be expected to last a reasonable period of time which is not 90 days.

I think maybe Corsair will not accept the item after 90 days thats fine but the Shop are bound to sale of goods act.Its up to you if you want to fight them on it if things go wrong though!

I believe the 90 day warranty is legal under EU consumer law because it is not a 'new' product but a refurbished product. Similar to UcUK selling 'B' Graded stock having 90 day warranty. ;)

So in other words your insinuation that there's a hidden reason for the refurbed H80s having a short warranty period is nothing different than OcUK's standard B-grade practice.

I do like the idea of the water cooler as to the amount of room left available in the case, but the 90 day warranty scares me off,the new one has a 3 year warranty does,nt it also been reading up on these coolers snd deems to be lots of reports of noisy pumps.

*sigh*

I did not insinuate anything.

I stated belief and fact.

I stated the belief that the 90 warranty is legal.

I stated the fact that Corsair only give a 90 day warranty on their reburb H80.

I stated the fact that OcUK has 90 warranty on 'B' Grade products.

And your saying in insinuated anything is a perfect example of your trying to cause problems.

There have been lots of issues with Corsair Hydro coolers.

Last I knew new Hydro coolers have 5 year warranty.. which does not mean they will last 5 years. Many have had issues already in far less than 5 years.

Nor does their 90 warranty mean they will fail shortly after 90 days.

I guess is these 'refurb' coolers are the ones that were RMA'ed to Corsair.. or ones Corsair had problems with coming off of the manufacturing line.

These refurb H80 only have a 90 warranty. Wonder why?

Did you forget you posted that?

To anyone that understands the English language that's hinting at an untoward reason for the shorter warranty period, ergo an insinuation that Corsair are being less than forthcoming.

Every regular member on this forum knows you have it in for Corsair and every time you're challenged on it you go for the "You're picking on me" stance, which is childish and pathetic.

If you don't like being challenged then don't post. Simple.
