Water or Phase..

I'm not being drawn into it on a public forum. All I will say is this. You get what you pay for.

I see, Is that aimed at me or weescott ?

Thanks.

Oh it's not aimed at anyone in particular. You've just got to be careful where you buy and who from. Any monkey can knock something up but there's only a couple of guys in the UK who I would recommend and Gray Mole is one of them.

Well I hope mine doesnt blow up or anything now, you have me worried :(

It looks well made! how do I tell ?!

Did you get any type of warranty with your unit? I'm not saying that every cheap unit is prone to failure but over the last month I've been made aware of 6.

I think its still under warranty with Ian Parry the original builder, for about another year.

Tbh, if theres somthing I should know about any of the units going around out there at the mo that is bad I'd like to know it really...

Generally, you get what you pay for. You can pay £250 for a custom unit from certain auction sites, and take it is as - sold as seen. Or you can pay upwards of £500 for a unit put together by professional engineers, with qualifications that mean they can LEGALLY do the work in the UK, with a warranty and professional support. It's the risk you take. I don't think people realise, but you have to be legally qualified to work with refrigerants. If you're not qualified you're breaking the law.

Well aslong as it isnt going to be dangerous or anything ?

I think I can live with the risk, worse case, i'll just send it to one of the qualified guys to be fixed if it does go **** up..

I hope everything goes OK,,
7min to start is quite a long-time,, my Mach2 take about 2-3 from room temperature to get to -33 at which point the pc switches on, end's up at about -60 ish.. don't know what other people think about the start time length.. my cooler too is at Gray's as I type,, re-tuned etc ready for a nice HOT quad core...
Anyway have fun make sure you have a good insulation, neoprene is the best thing to use.
If I can find some picture's of my old insulation on my old Asus P5W DH which gave me no problems at all, I will post them...

Well guys I went for the phase option, hope I dont regret it :o , got a Custom unit from a chap on Ebay for a great price, comes with G-Froster controller and software and a Chilly1 Evap Head and is pretty much as new.

1 Thing i didnt realise is how long these units take to warm up and get going from when you hit the on button!!, The unit counts down 7 minutes to get itself ready then cools the Evaporator head down to -40 or so which takes another 5 minutes or so before it turns on the PC, then continues to about -60 -65c!

Just reseaching insulation techniques now before I get her up and running properly :D

Phil, a question for you. Do you know for a fact 100% that the person you are refering to is not qualified to work with refrigerants? I ask because my Mach2 was modified by him and it has been and still is going like a good-un.

I'm not trying to point the finger at any one person in particular. All I'm saying is that between myself and a certain other reputable engineer in the UK we have had 6 units back for repair within a month. What really gets me though is the fact you get people trying to make a legitimate living out of this trade, and then you get people doing it "on the side" and stealing all the business because it's a couple of hundred quid cheaper.

Tbh, and this is coming from some1 who doesnt know the laws of refridgerators....but if some1 is operating outside of the law, as stated by philstanbridge, then surely it should be the duty of the members of this forum to alert other members of their dealings. At the end of the day, we are all enthusiasts who browse this forum, and surely we all expect the best performance from the best parts, and dont want to be flogged off by some1 who has knocked together something illegally. So therefore, if any1 has bought a phase cooling unit, that has failed, and either the warranty has been void, or money has not been given back for whatever reason, then surely the provider of the phase unit in question should be named so that others who may be interested in buying a phase unit know to stay well clear of this person. As far as I realize, the workings with fridge units can be hazardous, and ofc, no1 here wants their phase unit leaking all over their floor etc etc etc.

I know that we arent allowed to list other sellers or providers of products on this forum, but are we allowed to name and shame traders who illegally provide sub-standard products outside of the law? And considering they would be trading outside of the law, then their business practice wont really matter? Its just an idea, maybe a mod can comment on this?

I wouldnt like to be in the same room if one of these went up ! Only joking mate ! I hope it goes well and doesnt destroy your processor...

One thing I find very weird - the 7 minute start up sequesnce. The one I spent £500 from PhilStanbridge took less than 2 minutes.

Anyway, have you whacked 1.6 - 1.7v through your C2D yet and pushed her hard ?

I think its the norm for the controller im using, the Golden Froster XE 1.6, it is however changeable..

mrh2019, those pics are great !! thankyou, helps me lots for when I do my install :) your setup looks very similar to mine...

NP.. Put a small amount off Dielectric grease in the middle of the cpu socket to cover the components, and a very thin layer spread over the bottom of the cpu. Also round the bottom of the foam doughnut put a bit of Dielectric grease.
I don't know what mounting you have to go on the back of the motherboard?? if its anything like the one I have you will have to cut a hole in the motherboard case tray  if you have neoprene foam on that!! put a bit of Dielectric grease on the foam, make's the fitting easier to come off afterwards....
