Water pooling after an extension

We had a rear wrap around extension which was finished in December and we have noticed that water now pools in places that it didn’t before. There is a paved area where water collects (was previously a concrete garage foundation) and also an area that was grass but now mud becomes a huge puddle. We want to re turf in the spring but thinking we might need do some work to sort the drainage first.

We didn’t have this issue before - anyone experienced? Any tips?

The garden soil is quite clay based around where we live

Clay soil doesn't normally drain too well anyway. Also the paved area, when it was laid was it laid to a fall at all? I'm presuming its not since water is pooling. Ideally you'd have the slabs laid to a fall away from the house, however, depending on which way it falls this could be causing the additional water to the garden. One final thing though is where is the water running to from your extension? Back into the mains, soakaway, back into the ground around your house? Certainly in some areas up here SEPA / Scottish Water don't allow surface water to be connected into the mains (combined systems mainly) as the additional loading on the system causes issues further down the line.

Could you post a pic or two of the garden layout as well as it may help?

The paved area is flat so doesn’t fall away, I appreciate this is why the water sits on it. Wondering if we could add a channel or something to take water away to the back of the shed.

the builders added new drains next to the house to drain the water away from the roof so that’s not an issue, it seems to be from rainwater that isn’t draining away as quickly as it did before. I’ve added some pics below. But bear in mind this is during storm ciara and had heavy rain since yesterday evening. The water on the mud does eventually drain - it’s just that we never had these big puddles before when it was all turfed so a bit worried about when we re-turf this year.

Thanks
