... That don't break the bank. Any suggestions?

Ideally mid-March next year. Looking for nice hot weather, warm sea etc.

While I'm not tight, I do like to make sure I don't just throw money away. I like to do my research before booking anything.

Flights to Bora Bora from UK are over £1500+ per person.
Flights to the Maldives are around £500.

So my question to OCUK forumites - Are there other similar destinations with cheaper flights that you would suggest/recommend?

Some interesting points have been tabled so far.

I'm not a huge lover of sand so jumping straight into the water would be great. That being said, I'm sure a little beach nearby would be put to use.

We don't have our hearts set on the water villa, but that or a regular private villa like @dLockers mentioned would be awesome.

Resurrecting this one as I need to start putting plans into place soon. Hopefully the bump will bring in some more forumite experiences.

Maldives seems most likely. Will look at Bali, Cape Verde and others to compare costs too.

Cancun/Mexico would be my vote. Sure a water villa would be amazing but would quickly get bored no?

Stayed in Playa del Carmen which isnt too far from akumal beach amongst other things
Thanks, I hadn't considered Mexico. I've had the impression it is quite unsafe and corrupt - not through research though so I'm happy to be persuaded otherwise.
Yeah I think it would get boring just staying in a villa so excursions, landmarks, attractions etc would be great.

Those who stayed in an overwater bungalow or beach villa - did you go for a package deal or arrange flights and accommodation separately?
