Waterblock leak

I have had a Custom water cooled system for 5 and half years with overclocks, the cpu was 5820k,and 980ti s and recently one of the tubes disconnected and leaked all coolant, and shut down

Fortunately most of liquid leaked under case on to floor

I recently found out the motherboard is at fault since most likely from the leak or power issue

Not sure if rest of components are still fine as it was gpu and cpu cooled

Last thing I was doing was playing a high demand game

Has anyone else had issues of this failure and possible causes

ps it’s not been moved often but was on a floor under a table

if tubing came loose, it could be down to heat on the tube but >5 years is impressive. I would look at replacing all o-rings on the fittings and all tubing. unusual for tube to disconnect but 5 years is a long time.

What type of fittings are you using for the tubing to be able to come off? Most tubing and components are only rated at 60 degrees C so if your water temp exceeded that there is a possibility that the tubing was softened enough to fall off although I have never seen this before. The usual cause is that the tubing wasn't secured properly in the first place but as you have been running for 5 years that wouldn't be the cause of your problem. I agree with Mike about replacing all O-rings and would strip everything down as much as possible and give them a good clean. Probably worth changing the tubing after 5 years as well. While everything is apart look at getting a inline water temp sensor added to the loop so that you can keep a eye on temps.

Chances are it perhaps overheated and the tubing popped out that way. Or it just came loose over time. Can happen pretty easily with petg especially after 5 1/2 years. I’d check the fittings and o-rings, chances are they will be fine but won’t hurt to check and if needed replace them. Also check the pump for wear as they do wear on the ceramic ball bearing over time and again inspect and perhaps replace.

While everything is stripped down it also won’t hurt to clean out the blocks, pump and perhaps radiators. And if needed run mayhems blitz kit through the system.

Piping will definitely need replacement however.

Depending on the kind of build you’re going for. ZMT is pretty great stuff, last practically forever. And the above about a temperature sensor is a good idea also to monitor loop temps once it’s back up and running.
