Watercooled 480

here is the solution to the high temps on the 480 and every other hot card....

It looks a nice product but of course the video is just a load of sales speel. Need to see proper test results + pricing on this before a proper verdict can be given. If its priced right and truly interchangable between GPUs it will be a very big seller

Personally I don't get the whole fanboy thing with graphics cards. Why would you form an emotional attachment to a company that sold you a graphics card any more that you would a washing machine or any other piece of kit?

The thought that somewhere there are forums full of flames and ranting in threads arguing Hoover vs Hotpoint for domestic appliances scares me :)

You just don't get it do you? BOSCH make THE BEST washing machines. End of. :p:p

That looks a great little system! I'm just not sure that little compact system would have the capacity to deal with a gtx480.

A 320 TDP load is a lot for a 120mm rad, TBH its a lot for dual 120 mm rad.

True, depends how efficient the whole system is though so we'll have to wait and see still.

Just as a thought, does anyone see any problems with going for a 5970 and keeping the existing 280GTX for PhysX / Cuda etc (no idea if that's even possible, will be on a i7 930 with an ASUS P6TD Deluxe though)

thats just had my whole household in tears, nice one buddy hahaha :D

I will probably be going for the EK block or DD block. I have bought blocks from both companies before and been very pleased with their products. Prices for these blocks should be about £70-80. :)

That's pretty good result tbh. I could live with 51C on furmark.

So £550 for a gtx480 plus waterblock. Hmmm...

Problem is, thats WELL over the cost of 2x5850's, which will spank it all over the place even if you keep it at stock speeds and next to silent fan speeds.

Overclock those to 925-950Mhz on each core, and you have something that will be very close in performance to 480gtx SLI.

I really can't see why anyone would by a 480/470/5870. The 5870, after all overclocking is said and done, is 5% faster, maybe 10% faster in a very rare game, than the 5850, for a 50% increase in cost, why, just why?

THe 5850 overclocked to its max is likely faster than a 480gtx overclocked to its max, though we'd have to wait and see how 480gtx's generally overclocked, IF anyone gets to buy one.

Theres a MAJOR problem with this thread, and thats assuming the OP can actually get his hands on a 480gtx, and at the prices currently listed.

By the time they get in stock, stores could be charging another £100 for the dozen they have, which will all go to pre-orders to start with, if Nvidia never make any more, where exactly are you going to get a 480gtx?

A 480gtx will never, in any way, in any setup, beat 2x5850's, which can be bought for cheaper, and run quieter, and don't require watercooling to stop you being deafened?

Frankly, you can get 2x5850's + a 240gts for less than a 480gtx, and today, and have physx and cuda if you want it, and use less power, and it would be FAR FAR faster, quieter, less power, and cheaper with all the same features.....................

As good value as a 2x 5850's they arent what some people want.

The reason why I am going for a 480 is:

- Good with DX11 ie tessalation this is my main reason for upgrading to a new card so I want a card that does this really well.
- Physx - I dont want to mess with hacked drivers to get it to work with an ATI card. Its also something I feel I am missing with my current 4870X2.
- Seems a fast card on virgin drivers, things can only get better and faster.
- Seems to love AA, I am a graphics whore and AA is very important to me.
- Has extra ram onboard which will help with AA and in future games.
- Will add another 480 down the line for a faster than 2x5870 setup
- Vsync works better with nvidia seems broken with ati. This on occasions this has annoyed me.
- Game profiles are nice and something I have missed.
- Fed up of flickering in some games with my 4870X2, this didnt happen often but when it did it was a let down.
- Get to experiance TRSAA which by all accounts looks very nice.
- Want to see how far I can push it with watercooling and volt modding.
- Wouldnt mind trying 3D.

I also fancy a change from ATI and I often swap between the two makes of cards. My last nvidia card was my 8800gtx's which i still use in my other rigs today.

When the 6000 series comes out I may jump back over to ati but until then I am looking forward to getting my hands on a 480. If I am being honest my 4870X2 is plenty power for 1080p gaming and I am only really changing for DX11, Physx, TRSAA and because I like shiny new graphics cards. :D

I cant see why there is such a hang up with some when people want to buy a fermi over an ATI card. Not everyone wants bang for buck and not everyone looks for the same things in a card.

Competition is great for all users. I say spread the Fermi Love. :D
